my brand name

WP doesnt allow me to register cybernaut.wordpress.com though I checked and it is avaialble beacuse authors deleted the site.
I didnt do it, and I branded myself as cybernaut. This is simply not fair. -
Deleted blog URLs are not recycled http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
However, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

Exactly. That is not fair.
ofc I have my own domain and I will not use WP. I guess that was the goal of such a silly rule, to move away people from WP.
Best regards

I think you could still remap your wordpress blog to your own domain. Would that work? No one would see what the .wordpress.com username was.

awww! here http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/ it says
“you will not have FTP access to your files and you will still be required to abide by our Terms of Service.”no FTP access? lololol

It’s easier to buy WP theme and stay independent.

Yes, perhaps what you’re looking for is to use an open source wordpress.org install. I have a few of these sites and really enjoy them – some are highly modified and I definitely make a lot of use of FTP.
Easy to set up wordpress.com sites allow people to avoid a lot of the custom set up headaches, but for some people .org is the best solution.
The link timethief posted will probably be a helpful reference.

A lot of domain hosts actually have one-click or quick set ups for wordpress.org software that might work rather well for you.
-
They do work well but one has to pay for web hosting http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and we don’t provide support for any WordPress.ORG issues on the WordPress.COM support forums. If jjpress does not have a username account at WordPress.ORG she can click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so she can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.
-
Sure! I post at both sites and it’s a great community there (I’m often asking for help on weird php issues, usually).
-
All us regular WordPress.com Volunteers have experience with Wor4dPress.ORG installs too. We are told to avoid providing any WordPress.ORG answers here because up to 30% who post here already are lost and if we help guess what? They come back over and over again and bring friends.
-
Fair enough! It seems that the OP has enough information to chose between the installs and decide where to ask for help.
