My brands website has been taken taken hostage

Hi, my name is Lucas and I am the vocalist and manager of the band Feed The Addiction. We paid for this website and domain through a private designer. This designer is now holding our website hostage. We just sent her payment last week and due to a personal grievance between the web designer and one of the band members she is refusing to sign over our domain name and website. It’s our brand, we have proof of all of this. Even if we lost the site build, we are okay with that as long as we can get our domain name back.

  • Sorry to hear that! It sounds like you may need to get legal counsel involved, or reach out to the site’s host to see what their process is.

I don’t see any sites hosted on our services through this account, but if you’ll tell us the site address, we can confirm whether it’s hosted here or not.

It’s https://www.fta-ny.com. We just noticed that she also just changed the site and made a fake business name in attempt to get away with it too. We have proof that we’ve been using this site since last year. This is our brand, and we quite literally don’t know what to do. We know that she’s using wordpress in some way to run the site. We think at the very least she built the site using the WordPress Web-Builder and hosting it via BlueHost

  • Hi there,

I checked the site and it is not hosted with us here at WordPress.com. Your domain is hosted on Bluehost and the site is using the open-source WordPress.org software.

Since we do not have access to self-hosted WordPress.org sites, we are unable to provide any direct assistance to your issue, but I would reach out Bluehost to see how they could potentially assist you in this manner.

    Hope this helps.
