    Hi,

What do you mean by “updated my categories?”

The latest post, “Branching Out,” has the category Lifestyle assigned to it, and has a dozen tags. The post before that, “Festival survival,” is also assigned to the Lifestyle category. It has six tags.

However, the categories don’t appear on the posts page. Is that what you mean? That’s due to theme design.

Thanks so much for you reply. When i say updated them I mean I changed the name of a couple of them and deleted one. They used to appear along the top of my home page but now it just has ‘home’ and ‘about’, that’s what I mean. How do I get them back?

many thanks and apologies if this is super simple i’m very new to all this

They used to appear along the top of my home page but now it just has ‘home’ and ‘about…

Links to category pages can not be displayed in a default page menu, which only displays links to static pages. So the fact the category links were previously displayed in your menu indicates that at some point you had a custom menu activated, and now you don’t.

    To activate a custom menu:
In your classic dashboard, go to Appearance > Menus and select a custom menu, if necesary. Then in the Menu Structure of the selected menu scroll down to Menu Settings > Theme Locations and check the box labelled Primary Navigation.

Along the top are not categories they are pages.

Go to dashboard, pages, all pages and see if they are still there.

    @ lentilsandlipstick,

…at some point you had a custom menu activated, and now you don’t.

An alternative explanation might be that you presently have a custom menu activated, but have at some point deleted category pages from it, in which case the thing to do is a the category pages back to the menu structure and save the changes.

So it was the Primary Navigation check box at Menu Settings > Theme Location?
