My category have dispappeared from blog but are still in the dashboard

  My categories have disappeared from my blog…all I am left with is ‘home’ and ‘about’.

  My posts are put into categories, when I click on the category underneath the post, it takes me to the post on the wordpress search page.

  My categories still appear in my dashboard. I can see them in:

  Appearance/Menus: full list and number of posts on each
  Posts/Categories: All 5 categories are under my menu, saved (I have tried removing them and re-adding them)

  I must be missing something…please help! Thanks
