My Classical Editor is back, but it needs some help
-
Last week I had lost use of my Classical Editor and with some great help at this forum I got it back (“Lost my classic editor and I want it back” resolved). But it is not performing well. I mean, it works, but the results do not show up properly in All Posts or in an RSS feed reader I use to check my posts.
First, the text for a post showing in All Posts is way too long. This has, of course, affected all of my past posts.
Second, when I check my posts in an RSS feed reader I use to check my posts (“The Old Reader”), all that shows up is my title and a bit of text, whereas formally before I had the problem some of my images would also show up along with more of the text. So, I am not quite where I want to be.
So, if there is any additional help that I can get to have the Classical Editor perform properly, I would appreciate it. I can provide screenshots.
Thanks.

Hi, when you say “All Posts” what are you referring to? Your site’s blog page at sciencesprings loads normally for me.
And when you say “Classical Editor” do you mean the WP Admin dashboard? (Those are two different things.)
when I check my posts in an RSS feed reader
The way your posts are pushed out to RSS is determined by what you set at https://wordpress.com/settings/reading/ Scroll down a bit until you see “RSS feed settings” and choose whether the feed should include your full post or only an excerpt. Remember to save your selection.

Thanks.
When I want to start a post, I click on”Add New Post” and I get a drop-down two two choices: “Block Editor” and “Classic Editor”. I use “Classic Editor”.
I followed your instructions for the RSS feed reader, but it made no change. I see the title and the some beginning text, but the whole post should show up including some of the images. Here is an example of what I see. I can supply a screenshot.

This is not how it used to work.”
There is another problem on one computer (but not on another computer). When I bring up “Posts” for each post I get a long vertical column of the text strung out. This is useless and very annoying. I tried to copy and paste here but that did not display in order for me to show it to you. This happens on one computer but not on another computer. I can try to supply a screenshot.
I am working in Firefox.
Thanks for your help.

Posts dashboard: So you mean the WP Admin Posts dashboard at https://sciencesprings.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php ? If so, try clicking the “Screen options” tab at the top right of your browser screen When that opens, under “View Mode” select whatever option isn’t currently selected and click “Apply”. If that isn’t your preferred mode, go through the procedure again and choose the view mode you want and again click “apply”. Hopefully that will shake something out.
RSS feed: I just subscribed to your site in the WPcom Reader, which is a feed reader, to see what’s going on, but after clicking the post title, I see your full article. I also added your site’s feed https://sciencesprings.wordpress.com/feed/ to Vivaldi and Feedly and there too, I see the full article in the feed.
It could be that this is an issue with the feed reader you’re using and not the feed itself, in which case, you’ll need to contact the feed reader’s support.

I agree that the issue with the feed reader I am trying to use is an issue with that reader. I have several feed readers and most just give a short of the article following the title. Seemingly unique, “The Old Reader” will provide fuller views including most of the text and some images. That was what I had been getting but have lost. Unfortunately this reader is no longer supported so there is no one to contact.
I tried your suggestion on the posts but they did not help me get a usable view. Fortunately I do no have this problem on another computer and so can see what I want on that computer. Why this useless view occurred and why it is different on another computer is beyond me.
Thanks for your help.

The “long vertical column of text” has happened to me before when I fiddled with the scale of the text in “settings” on my computer.
-
PS: To clarify “the long vertical column of text” used to happen when I fiddled with the scale of text and used the old Internet Explorer browser. It doesn’t happen now in Chrome, so perhaps changing your browser on the affected PC might help.

Thanks for the suggestion to try All Posts in Chrome. I did that and it made no difference. Fortunately the posts show up properly on two other computers.
The problem with the feed reader seems to have somehow been cleared up and I am seeing my posts properly. The reader involved is”The Old Reader”, which is no longer supported. This is a shame as it is an excellent resource.
