my comments land in spam jail

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’m a having a huge problem with my comments landing in spam jail. I talked to someone at Akismet and I was told that I have an wordpress.com account and a wordpress.org account. Now, I’ve been self hosted from the very beginning, I think but I could be wrong. My webpage is http://www.happilyeverafterromancebookreviews.com
If I’m really landing in spam jail because I’m using two different accounts when commenting, how can it be fixed?
Do I need to have a wordpress.com page?
Can I sync my .org with the .com page?
Can I keep both in such a way that it doesn’t prevent me from commenting.
I’m having a hard time connecting with any of my fellow bloggers because my comments go straight to jail. And many of the .com bloggers don’t even know where their spam folder is.
I’m also getting this [* WordPress Security Firewall plugin marked this comment as “trash”. when commenting. And I checked my plugins and haven’t found any for a firewall.

    Any help would be appreciated!!!

    Thank you, Corina

    Hi @happilyeverafterromancebookreviews,

Your site, http://www.happilyeverafterromancebookreviews.com is self-hosted (I did a Whois lookup and it came back with this info – your host):

    Registrar: TUCOWS, INC.
    Name Server: NS1.US50.SITEGROUND.US
    Name Server: NS2.US50.SITEGROUND.US

But you do definitely have a WordPress.com account, because that’s the forum we are on (and you have to be logged in to post)! :-)

When I head to your website, http://www.happilyeverafterromancebookreviews.com, I get a problem loading webpage error which could be caused by DNS issues.

You should be able to get more relevant support regarding comments on WordPress.org/self-hosted sites by visiting .org support: https://wordpress.org/support/

But I think there is a lot of information we are talking about here. So let’s try to narrow it down, are comments you are making on other sites landing in spam, or comments on your site (or sites) from viewers landing in Askimet’s spam filter? Can you give an example of a site your are posting on and/or a comment that went to spam?

    Thanks!

    Hi aandrewsmills,

thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly.

I changed URL’s today, this is the new homepage http://www.booktwinsreviews.com.

Comments that I make on other sides. MY comments land in their spam. I only comment on fellow book bloggers sites, and only comment about the books I’ve read. Even on the Askimet test page I land in jail.

This is a very generic comment.

Wonderful review, I agree wholeheartedly. I really loved this book and can’t wait to read book 2.

Many of the pages are wordpress.com blogs. I’ve noticed that, but even on this blog I landed in jail.

    He even commented on it.

Please let me know if you need any other information.

Great info, thank you for replying! Beautiful site you have there too! :-)

You are definitely self-hosted with http://www.booktwinsreviews.com so if you ever have any troubles with it, the .org support will be your go-to for help.

But, onto the commenting issue. From what I was able to find, it seems to be an Akismet issue. This was a good article that led me to the Akismet contact page where you should be able to submit a report to them and ask for help getting unstuck from their spam filters. From your comment on Hugh’s blog it seems like you’ve tried this method, but maybe try again? :-)

This was also a tip from the article to try:

One of the simple things which you can do here is by adding a comment to your friend blog and asking them to mark your comment as not spam. If not, you can comment on many different WordPress powered blog which gets moderate or less amount of comments (Hoping they all use Akismet), after adding 2-3 meaningful comments, drop an Email to admin using contact form and ask them to unmark your comment as not spam. It’s a slow process but very effective.

    I hope that helps!

    Thank you so much!!!

The article is definitely helpful and I’ll contact Akismet. Even a slow progress is better than none, and whatever helps I’m willing to try. :D

    Truly appreciate your help!!
