My custom blog is not adding menu tabs
-
Hi
I’ve changed my theme to support the custom menu. It doesn’t seem to be adding menu tabs – for example I have the HOME and ABOUT menu but it will not add any menu that I write in. It just seems to sit in cyber blog somewhere. I would like to add the menu TRAVEL – when I do it just sits in a drop down menu and I can choose it as a primary but then it does nothing. PLEASE HELP – I’m very new to this.
Warmest Regards
Dany

If you are using a custom menu, you have to manually add pages to it. Have you done that?
-
I go to appearance – menu then create a new menu with travel. But it doesn’t show up where my Home and About is – it just seems to be able to be a choice as a primary menu and that is it. Thank you so much for replying!

also, remember to save or update your changes—>the first custom menu I made, I forgot about saving it…

Hi
I have created the menu Travel but it won’t allow me to put in the same place as the Home or About. I would like to have the navigation menus simliar to this site:

I don’t know why it isn’t allowing me – do I need to pay? This is a free blog that I’m using.

Have you confirmed that your theme supports multiple menus? If not, then you’ll have to set Travel as your primary menu if you want it to show up.
-
You need to add a link to your page called “Travel” to your custom menu. Then you will have navigation tabs for “home” “about” and “travel”.
Here is a different article about custom menus so perhaps that will add some more details about what you need to do:
-
I’ve confirmed that it has a custom menu – but not multiple menus. How do I search this? Are they the same thing.
Once again really appreciate your assistance.

@raincoaster,
Expound supports only one menu. The OP is trying to add a navigation tab to her primary menu, not a menu called “travel”.
I think? -
@danyekelly,
Please read the article I just provided the link to. That should help to clarify how a custom menu works. -
Here is the relevant information from that article:
2. I want to add several menus but my theme says it supports only one
First, a menu is a group of tabs, not a single tab. A menu can be vertical or horizontal. The whole group of tabs in the header area is the top menu or top navigation menu (usually horizontal); each tab is a menu item.
-
@danyekelly,
You need to publish a page called “travel” before you can add it to your menu. -
Yes @ 1tess I’m trying to add a navigation tab/menu item called Travel. I’ve done as you suggest and read the tips – which is much the same as the other tips from wordpress – however they did suggest to make sure all the boxes were ticked on the right hand corner (they weren’t) – I went to tick them and then checked to see if this helped – then returned but the ticks had not remained.
I’m also worried as it says to make sure that I have published the changes. There is no button that says to publish (for my new menu item). Maybe this is my problem?
-
Let’s go back to basics: Does the page Travel already exist? If the page does not exist, you cannot add a menu item for it.
-
Ok – sounds good.
Do you mean does the page Travel exisit, like Home and About exist?
If that is the question then no.
What I did was I went to Dashboard – Appearance – Menus. Then I choose to create a new menu (Travel). Then it gave me the option to either :
Automatically add new top-level pages to this menuor
Primary Menu
I accidently did the Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu.
But I think I was meant to do Primary Menu.
If this is so is there anyway I can change it and/or reset and start from the beginning?
Or have I completely missed the point?
Thank you very much guys!

http://danyekelly.wordpress.com/travel does not exist. If what you want is a static page, create it. If what you want is a category page, for blog posts in the category of travel, create some posts in that category and then add this link to the menu: http://danyekelly.wordpress.com/category/travel

Hi guys – it ended up being that I needed to add pages – not menu’s. Thank you so much for your help. Kind regards
