My custom css keeps sliding back up to top; updates
-
Again about the sliding CSS code in the CSS Stylesheet Editor box. I tried editing in Firefox, and it looked okay, but when I looked at the site in Chrome it was different and wrong. There had not been this problem when I edited in Chrome and then looked at it in Firefox. I really want to edit in Chrome, and I can’t do that at all now, as long as I can’t stop the CSS code from sliding back up to the top!! Isn’t there something you can do?

The CSS Stylesheet Editor is still sliding back up to the top when I try to edit at the bottom. This still means that I can’t use it in Chrome, at all. My setup (Windows 7, the lastest Chrome) has nothing odd about it, and it is the way I want to work. I don’t feel that WP has adequately addressed this issue. Is the CSS upgrade worth its cost if WordPress can’t fix what must be a common problem?

My stylesheet editor still slides up to the top when using chrome as well. Any additional updates on this problem?

Can’t anyone in authority fix this, or at least tell us why they can’t?! It is still happening, as soon as I try to make a change. I am not happy with WordPress’s lack of response, both here and in my personal emails! I feel I have paid for an upgrade that I can’t use, apparently by no fault of my own, and it seems that I’m not alone in this. Something should be done.

I’m not able to reproduce the issue myself and I’m running 18.0.1025.165 now. Have you upgraded to that version as well?
-
Hi, I’ve got 18.0.1025.162 m, but it also tells me “Google Chrome is up to date”. Maybe I should check their website for an update?

Try this to force an update: http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95414

According to “The Latest Versions of Chrome” (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/bibclkcoilbnbnppanidhimphmfbjaab), 18.0.1025.165 is for Mac OS X, and 18.0.1025.162 is the latest thing for Windows. So I have to work with what I (and millions more) have got… And it’s still sliding… I could paste code just now because it stayed still while my cursor was on it, but as soon as the change went in, off it went again up to the top.

I tested the CSS editor in Chrome 18.0.1025.162 on Windows and I was unable to reproduce the problem. I can add CSS, scroll, make changes, use, and save changes in the CSS editor normally in Chrome 18.0.1025.162 on Windows.
Here is a screenshot showing my test: http://cl.ly/G7SK/o
This test shows me that Chrome 18.0.1025.162 on Windows does work with the WordPress.com CSS editor at least in my case.
I can also see that only three separate usernames (stefmorgan, steph3534, rleinsights), and I think two of those usernames are yours, and so we have only received two reports of this issue all together and we are unable to reproduce the problem in testing on our side, so I don’t believe other people are experiencing the same problem.
I was looking for details about operating system and browser version because there had been some bugs reported for Chrome recently, and I thought something in the browser may have been the cause of the problem. Based on our testing and your descriptions of the problem combined with knowing that only two people have reported the problem, it sounds like the problem could be happening for you because of a local browser setting or some other local issue that I don’t know how to figure out. I will try to help you the best I can though.
I believe you mentioned that the CSS editor works fine for you in the Firefox browser, but it doesn’t work for you in Chrome. Do you have any extensions installed in your Chrome browser and would it be possible for you to uninstall them to try testing the CSS editor without them?
Clearing browser cache and cookies may help in this case. I’m not sure though, because I have been unable to reproduce the problem you described. If it’s okay with you to clear your browser history, including things like saved passwords, you can try it to see if it helps:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookiesBeyond that, another thing you could try is checking the CSS from another computer in the same network location. All of these kinds of tests are to try to narrow down what might be causing the trouble for you in particular. If you can get the CSS editor to work from another computer on the same network, then that points to a local network or firewall issue of some kind. If the editor does work from another computer using the same internet connection (network), then that points to the problem being a local browser settings issue.

Good idea. I just tried my netbook, which works off the same connection, and there on Chrome the CSS does indeed stay still as it should do. So it must be a browser settings issue on my desktop only, as you say. Good to have that understood– must indeed be a rare combination of things that does this. As for clearing all my saved passwords and extensions, hmm, maybe I will have to try that, or maybe I’ll just edit elsewhere for any remaining CSS needs… Thank you so much for your advice and help!

Sorry it was a pain to track down! Stuff like that can happen, browsers and settings get mixed up and they can sometimes be tough to track down.
It is possible to just clear cache for a specific timeframe, and you could try clearing just cache for just the past 4 weeks to see if that helps at all. Here are the steps:
http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95647Here’s how the last step would look if you wanted to try it:
http://cl.ly/G9AN/oAlso check out the extensions, some of them can interfere sometimes and turning them off is simple to do as a test if you have any installed.
If one of those things works out and fixes the problem for you, I would be interested to know so please post back if you find a solution.
