my dashboard won't load. i'm using safari 4.1.3 – the same browser i've used!

i started this trouble ticket at the library. i used this version of safari when i created this account in March of this year. it worked FINE.
WORDPRESS CHANGED IT’S HOMEPAGE AND IT DOES NOT WORK APPROPRIATELY. if your new changes do not support old browsers, then notifications should have been sent out. i spent a week with you people and this is the best you can do? YOU’RE TECH SUPPORT!
you’re talking to me as if i’ve never owned a computer or have NO TECH SKILLS. i could care less about impressing my friends with a new computer or showing them what i can do with my computer. that NEVER ENTERS MY MIND WHEN I SHOP FOR COMPUTERS OR ANY TECHNOLOGY. that’s insulting.
you still have not resolved this issue. i just told you i am not in the market to upgrade my system just to use this free site. i think developers should keep in mind that people have older versions of operating systems and develop systems that would service ALL, not get kickbacks every time someone upgrades to use your product. i think it’s unfair. i chose wordpress because of its reputation and popularity. i decided to create a blog and begin my business using wordpress. but if you’re telling me i must fork over money, which i do not have, to upgrade my computer JUST TO USE your site, then i would ask that you delete my account and request for a permanent removal of my information from your database. this is ridiculous.
i’ll go elsewhere…and will not recommend wordpress to anyone else.
i’m completely offended.
how do i delete this account and blog since i cannot get INTO MY DASHBOARD TO DO IT?

Username accounts are not deleted at wordpress.com http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

In an ideal world, wordpress.com would maintain a list of supported browsers; and if they considered your browser was too old to reasonably support, they would then be able to tell you so immediately without wasting your time with traceroutes and suggestions to spend hundreds of $$$ on a new computer.
I would also suggest not getting too insulted by the attempts at support by a staff member who is evidently new and still figuring out the best way of talking to frustrated customers.
-
how would i know if your support staff is “new”? i simply stated my issue. your team of THREE came back to me. the first person stated that she would flag the thread for “staff.” i assumed she was part of “staff.” then two other people chimed in.
so if the USER is getting frustrated by having three random people tell her NOTHING to solve her issue, then i don’t know what to tell you. i don’t apologize for being human. i think i have been patient and have checked all possible areas that were suggested even BEFORE they were suggested.
bottom line: WORDPRESS developers should not change things if they are not sure it could support existing users’ browsers – no matter how old or how new.
i don’t know how many times i’ve had to state that i created this account using this same browser. i was able to create the blog, create a post, set a theme, etc. all under this same browser. it is your new homepage that is NOT WORKING WITH MY BROWSER.
you’re not addressing that. you simply ignore my statements that i cannot afford an upgrade but tell me to buy an upgrade and then insult my intelligence by telling me i’ll be the envy of all of my friends by buying new upgrades for my computer. i’m sorry, but HOW IS THAT HELPING MY ISSUE?
“In an ideal world, wordpress.com would maintain a list of supported browsers” <- so this ISN’T my issue. it’s wordpress’s issue. maybe wordpress SHOULD keep a list of supported browsers. there are those of us who have older versions and have started using your product based on being able to do so prior to your changes. so don’t put that responsibility on me.
this whole thread was a waste of my time.
NO RESPONSE IS NECESSARY!
CASE STILL NOT RESOLVED.

You would figure out the staff member was new the same way I did; looking at their forum profile to see how long they’d been active here (in this case, a week). Most browsers also render the usernames of staff on a different background colour to other users; it works in my version of Safari, though obviously I can’t speak for yours. Unfortunately it seems in this case that staff can’t solve the issues you are having, and it is also beyond the scope of forum volunteers. Timethief has already apologised for this, so all that remains to say is good luck with your blogging elsewhere :)
(years ago my gravatar used to read ‘NOT STAFF’, maybe I should change it back for the benefit of people with ropey browsers?)

thanks for trying clarify, but when i spend HOURS searching how to ask for support and i’m directed here, i’m not looking at avi’s, i’m looking for SOLUTIONS.
since these sites don’t have a direct line to tech support, this is what happens. you have to sift through answers from other users and not the developers themselves.
it’s over. it’s done.

Hey there,
I apologize if you’ve taken any offense to my previous statements. I was trying to emphasize that there are other consideration to be had when upgrading systems, and used an example that many individuals typically perceive.
As far as browsers are concerned, we support any of the browsers listed here, and test every change in each of them. WordPress.com should work in any browser that is still supported by its vendor.
In your particular instance, Apple officially ceased support of OS/X 10.4 when OS/X 10.6 was released in August 2009. That means that your system–and browser–stopped receiving updates at this time.
We do not deliberately attempt to break things in older browsers, but it’s inevitable that a change we implement will eventually cause older browsers to stop functioning properly. We don’t like when this happens, but, at times, it’s unavoidable.
I’m sorry that the WordPress.com platform no longer fits your needs. Please let us know if you need any assistance transferring elsewhere.
Best,
P. -

multimediabiz…i think you should start your own topic forum. mine has not been resolved. thanks. this just confuses things more.
as far as MY issue, again, i had NO ISSUE with this browser when i created this account back in may of THIS year. wordpress changed its homepage where you can access your dashboard. however, not all of the tabs on the menu works on my machine. i can access on a desktop on windows. i am aware that companies stopped supporting my browser and OS; HOWEVER, that was not the case when i created this account on THIS machine in may. i used THIS machine and THIS browser to create this account, post blog posts, change themes, etc. it was until you changed your homepage that i have this issue.
THIS is my issue. that is why i made it a point to indicate what browser i was using and my OS version. i gave you all of the details. you didn’t state any of this in the beginning. i was just told to upgrade to impress my friends…

WordPress.com supports the latest versions of browsers listed at http://browsehappy.com/ and while we’d like to support older browser software forever, we can’t support every old version. As they get older and older, they may not always work the same way because WordPress.com is constantly moving forward.
That said, I can try to offer a few workarounds which I hope will help you.
WordPress.com has been adding new dashboard-like features to the home page. Earlier you mentioned the dashboard tabs weren’t working for you, but typical blog dashboards have a left menu (not tabs). So I wonder if you were getting stuck on the WordPress.com home page features instead of the normal dashboard. Just to make sure, here is the direct link to your dashboard to make sure that’s what you’re looking at:
https://getfitblackgirl.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
Even though you have an older version of Safari, an older version of Firefox may work better. I know you said you’ve already tried other browsers, but if you haven’t tried another one in a while, it might be worth a shot. If it’s at all possible, you may want to try installing Firefox to see if it works better for you: http://getfirefox.com/ Installing Firefox doesn’t mean you have to upgrade your computer.
If by any chance you have a smartphone or iPad, try out the WordPress mobile apps:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/apps/There’s bare bones mobile version of WordPress.com at http://m.wordpress.com/ which has limited functions but could get you a quick way to post if that’s what you need right away. It’s limited, but should work well for an older, outdated browser like the Safari 4.1.3 one you’ve been using.
-
whether or not i have a smartphone is not the issue. the issue is AGAIN, i log on using the SAME computer and SAME browser i used when i registered this account and started my blog. the changes WORDPRESS made doesn’t take me directly to my dashboard when i log on. giving me a link still doesn’t help me when i navigate away from the dashboard. it will take me to the homepage. i see the menu on the left side. THEY DON’T WORK EITHER. the only way to get back to the dashboard using the homepage tabs is go to stats and even that tab doesn’t fully load, but enough to see the dashboard link.
i use my laptop to access web. i don’t use mobile devices EVER. so i will not be using that as option when i have this laptop that i used to create this account. WHY ISN’T ANYONE ACKNOWLEDGING THIS?
so if your workaround does not support my browser, then just state that. there is no need to have this “last word.” wordpress made some changes that do not support my browser now. they did in MARCH or MAY of THIS year. now, they don’t. it’s simple as that.
the only way wordpress works is if i use another computer, which i do not have access to on a daily basis. this is the reason i BOUGHT a laptop, to be more mobile and have wireless capabilities to take my work WITH me…
wordpress has HINDERED this ability with their changes. instead of admitting this, you’d rather give me more suggestions that are NOT CONVENIENT TO THE USER.
if you cannot SOLVE this, there is no reason to keep responding to this post. i know what happened. wordpress FAILED to alert that these changes might interrupt current users of MAC OSX Tiger and Safari 4.1.3 users. you’re telling me to upgrade, which COSTS MONEY I DON’T HAVE. you’re suggesting i use a smartphone, WHICH COSTS MONEY I DON’T HAVE – all to you use your FREE SERVICE???
again, if you cannot SOLVE IT, LEAVE IT ALONE!
THANK YOU!
-
so if your workaround does not support my browser, then just state that
I am only trying to help you. Workarounds are an attempt to help you! Some of the workarounds I mentioned may in fact work in your browser.
i use my laptop to access web. i don’t use mobile devices EVER. so i will not be using that as option when i have this laptop that i used to create this account. WHY ISN’T ANYONE ACKNOWLEDGING THIS?
I acknowledge that WordPress.com does not support very old and outdated web browsers. Just because the software or service you are using worked with the computer you bought, doesn’t mean that it will always work on that computer forever. It’s the same for all software. I’m sorry you’ve run into this issue!
wordpress made some changes that do not support my browser now. they did in MARCH or MAY of THIS year. now, they don’t. it’s simple as that.
That is correct. I’m sorry we are not able to support all older versions of all browsers, but we do support the browsers listed at http://browsehappy.com/
you’re suggesting i use a smartphone, WHICH COSTS MONEY I DON’T HAVE – all to you use your FREE SERVICE???
I didn’t suggest purchasing a smartphone, I asked if you already had one.
if you cannot SOLVE this, there is no reason to keep responding to this post.
Okay!
I’m very sorry we weren’t able to help you with your Safari 4.1.3 version.
