My delete problem?

I deleted some items in my gallery/library to make more room. But seems that also deletes the post from the blog. I did not think gallery and blog posts connected. Can I make more room in my gallery/library without it also deleting posts too?

No, you can’t. All images on the web needs to be hosted somewhere. On WordPress.com, that’s in your media library. When you insert an image into your post you don’t actually insert the image itself, but only a link to where the image is stored in the media library. If you delete the image from the library, the link in the post is pointing at nothing.
If you want to free up space in your media library, consider replacing your existing images with images that have been optimised for the web: Many people upload photos that are over 2000 pixels wide with a file size of 2-3Mb, while the biggest the image can display on their blog is around 800 pixels (the upper limit for most WP themes are around 1200), which would have a file size of less than 500Kb.
Check if you perhaps have images like that that are too big. Edit the post in question, click on the image and then the pencil icon, and select “Replace Image”. Upload and optimised image and update the image and post. Then go and delete the old image from the library. You can also use a tool like JPEGMini to decrease file size before you upload an image.
