My domain expired

My domain name expired and I am not able to renew – tomcareyphotography.com. WTF? How can I get real support?

Hey there,
I checked with our registrar and tomcareyphotography.com is now in a redemption period. You can still renew your domain through us, but it is now a more expensive and complicated process to do so. Our registrar charges an $80 late renewal fee in addition to the $26 we charge to renew the domain. The good news is that this is still a chance of reclaiming the domain through this option.
Your other option is to wait until the redemption period is over so that the domain becomes available for registration again. Domains are usually in redemption for approximately 80 days, but with this option, you run
the risk of someone else jumping in front of you to purchase the domain before you get the chance. Please let me know if you want to proceed with paying the late renewal fee in the attempt to reclaim the domain name. This option is also time sensitive because the domain can be auctioned off to an expired domain bidder.
I would suggest enabling the auto-renew option so that you will not have to worry about losing control over your domain in the future.
Please visit the support page link for further instructions:
Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

The problem here is that we had auto renew set. You guys sent me an email that my credit card would be charged. And then… no charge and now no domain renewal. We will pay the redemption fee, but your system needs to be fixed.
-
We want to move forward and get our domain out of redemption now. Please send email or whatever we need to do this.
-
For your reference, this is the email I received on October 5.
tomcareyphotography.com will be renewed automatically.
tomcareyphotography.com is about to be automatically renewed on October 12, 2016.
You will be charged $26.00 for this renewal in 6 days, on October 12, 2016.
You don’t have to do anything — this is just a reminder.
If you don’t want to renew, you can cancel this subscription at Me > Manage Purchases in your WordPress.com account.

Thanks for providing that information. Before proceeding with the charge, I’m going to have our payments team take a look at your account and see if your credit card was indeed set up for auto renew. If that is the case, we’d be more than happy to take care of the $80 charge on our end. I’ll report back to you once I get an update.
Thanks!

The charge failed on your Visa [last 4 digits of CC redacted].

In particular, they told me it was a bank decline.
Let me know if you have any questions or of you still want to proceed with the redemption. Thank you!

Hi there,
I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore tomcareyphotography.com to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back. If I am successful, I can send you a manual payment request form for you to repurchase the domain.
I will let you know once I hear back from the registrar.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Can you let me know if there is an update on this? You said it was in redemption and that we could get this back. Now you’re saying we might not get it back? Please let me know asap.. Thanks for your help.

Hey!
Good news! I just heard back from our registry partner and your domain has been restored! I see that you have three slight derivations of the same blog name – which one would you want me to connect the domain to? I’ll send the manual payment once I hear back from you.

In case this happens again in the future, I initially mentioned this:
Domains are usually in redemption for approximately 80 days, but with this option, you run the risk of someone else jumping in front of you to purchase the domain before you get the chance.
Please let me know if you want to proceed with paying the late renewal fee in the attempt to reclaim the domain name. This option is also time sensitive because the domain can be auctioned off to an expired domain bidder.before mentioning this:
but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.
So yes, you usually can get your domain back, but I just wanted to make sure to mention that there is always a chance you may not. It is usually a slight chance, but if there is a squatter or someone itching to grab this domain, it’s a possibility.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

We’ve emailed you a payment link. As soon as we receive payment we can restore the domain to your account.

Your domain has been restored now and should be showing your site again within a few hours. Please just make sure with your hosting provider that the site doesn’t need to be reconnected on their end as well.
