Seriously, is there absolutely no way to get ahold of a happiness engineer if there is no paid website account..? This is just one small instance of a domain registered through a WP.com account that had expired and needed to be renewed and yet there was no way to speak to support, none. There must be many other instances that are costing Automattic business because of the complete lack of ability to reach live support. This is a serious shortfall of WP’s outward structure.

    Hi there!

Email and live chat support are for accounts with current paid upgrades. All other support comes to the free forums where both members of staff and volunteers are here to help. We do have some guidelines here on how to get staff’s attention if you need help with something like this in the future.

However, it does look like you were able to get in touch with live chat support and they were able to help you recover and renew your domain.

If you have further questions or need additional help, please respond to the email you have with Support and they’ll be happy to help.

    I hope that helps!

Actually no, it does not help. The only way I found to get ahold of support was to pay (which I cancelled immediately after contacting support, so a totally frivolous step, especially when the issue was being able to pay for a domain that had expired). Which is exactly the issue I was bringing up. I understand businesses’ need for some sort of filter to not get overwhelmed by requests. However, putting a paywall on being able to contact support at all is utterly ridiculous.
