My domain expired and I can't find it to get it back

  • Unknown's avatar

My domain expired last month. Apparently in wordpress I had tried to change my email address and didn’t confirm it, I didn’t get the email to renew. At this point, when I log in, I can’t get access back to my URL. I literally, even after talking with Wild West Domains, can’t find a way to get my domain name back and pay for it to use it. In my wordpress account, it only shows my very old wordpress.com website and info. My website is completely down, and I am a small business that desperately needs it up. I need help! Please!

    Hello there,

Oh no! Expired means over, dead, done and finished. Read https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/

We focus on not allowing domains to expire so others can purchase them when they are auctioned off and that’s why we have an auto renew feature. https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-purchases/#auto-renew

Staff need details to recover the domain.
    1. What is the domain URL?
    2. What is the underlying .wordpress.com URL?
    3. Exactly which username account registered the underlying .wordpress.com blog and purchased the upgrade for it?
    4. When was the upgrade purchased?
    5. When did the refund request and upgrade cancellation, or the domain expiration take place?

I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Also subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting. The domain url is http://www.byoungforeverphotography.com
    The username is byoungforeverphotography
The upgrade was originally purchased on Jan 1st 2013, and most recently purchased on Jan 6th, 2016.
The domain expiration took place I believe on Jan 2nd of this year, though my site was live until 2 days ago.

Thank you so much for your help!

  • Hey there,

I checked with our registrar and byoungforeverphotography.com is now in a redemption period. You can still renew your domain through us, but it is now a more expensive and complicated process to do so. Our registrar charges an $80 late renewal fee in addition to the $26 we charge to renew the domain. The good news is that this is still a chance of reclaiming the domain through this option.

Your other option is to wait until the redemption period is over so that the domain becomes available for registration again. Domains are usually in redemption for approximately 80 days, but with this option, you run
the risk of someone else jumping in front of you to purchase the domain before you get the chance.

Please let me know if you want to proceed with paying the late renewal fee in the attempt to reclaim the domain name. This option is also time sensitive because the domain can be auctioned off to an expired domain bidder.

I would suggest enabling the auto-renew option so that you will not have to worry about losing control over your domain in the future.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

    Hi Darnell!

I would like to pay that fee to reclaim the domain. How do I go about doing that? I went to the link you gave me but I don’t see any information on how to move forward with reclaiming from redemption period.

Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it!

I’m just bumping this for help. I’d really like to do this asap to get my website back up. It’s currently lost in internet land. Thank you!

    Hi there,

Thanks for confirming. I’ve sent a payment request to the email address on your WordPress.com account. Please let me know if you don’t receive it.

Once that has been paid, we will start the recovery process.

Come back to me if you have any questions!

I’ve purchased the restore of my domain. How do I make the domain point back at my site again? I did this so many years ago I don’t know what I’m doing with it.

    Hi there,

Thanks for making the payment. I have contacted our registrar, to start the recovery process. As soon as I have an update I’ll be in touch.

How do I make the domain point back at my site again?

If we are successful in recovering your domain we will add it back to your site for you.

I’ll be in touch when I have more news.

    Thanks!
