My domain expired. Can I get it back?q

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello! My domain used to be depovestit.com. I think it expired and now there is a weird, Chinese page at that link. Can I get my old domain back or can I change the domain name without affecting everything I have built on this blog? How do I go about that? Thanks, Lorena

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    Hey there,

You may be able to get assistance from your hosting provider since WordPress.com does not control the sites hosted by another hosting provider.

I suggest that you contact your hosting provider here:

    Contact Us

Your site ‘depovestit.com’ uses open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org), whereas this forum deals with sites hosted through WordPress.com.

They’re very similar, but two separate things.

    Hope this helps! :)

  • Hi Lorena,

I took a look at your account, and I can see that your domain was indeed registered with WordPress.com; however, it expired back in January, and it looks like somebody else registered it afterward.

I’m afraid that we can do anything at this point. Once the domain expires, you lose your rights to it. I can only suggest you register another domain with some additional word/hyphen or the same one but with a different extension.

    @amiteshg93
, be careful when giving out information about domains. If you need to check the history of the DNS, you can check https://completedns.com/dns-history/. That way, you’ll be sure if the domain was used on WordPress.com before expiring or not.

    Hey staff-mckluskey,

    Many thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for suggesting another URL. I’ll also look into that for the history of the DNS.

    :)

  • @amiteshg93 it might even be best to just modlook questions about any purchases like domains, expirations, and plans, as staff will be able to see purchase history. Cheers and thanks for your help.
