    Hello,

My domain rianglab.com has expired and I’m totally forgot to renew it on 29 June 2011. So how to get it back? This is happened after I tried to WHOIS

    Domain Name: RIANGLAB.COM

    Whois Server: whois.wildwestdomains.com
    Referral URL: http://www.wildwestdomains.com
    Name Server: NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    Name Server: NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    Status: redemptionPeriod
    Updated Date: 09-aug-2011
    Creation Date: 28-jun-2010

If your Dashboard >> Store does not have a renew option then contact the staff at once, the domain has not been released back into the wild yet.

Some registrars have an extra fee to bring it out of redemption (bit more work for them I think) – but I don’t know what the WordPress.COM policy is.

Here’s the email address support@wordpress.com Be sure you include all details.

Perhaps I could just wait for a while maybe?

You could just wait, but you run the risk of someone else registering the domain. If that risk is acceptable, you would need to wait for about 80 days after the expiration date and domains are normally released by the registrar after that.

It is possible to recover a domain from redemption for an additional $80 fee above the normal renewal price. That fee is imposed by our registrar provider. If you’re interested in that option, please email support as auxclass has suggested and please mention this forum thread link.

Letting a domain expire is never good – sort of like in the Dirty Harry movie – Well how lucky do you feel?? There is an entire industry that grabs up domain names and squats on them for many many bucks.

My advice is look on the extra cost as sort of a learning curve thing, yes that is hard to do and I would be upset also – I have known people that had their domain squatted on and while they did get it back it was a long time and a lot of money for legal fees. And they had names that were part of a trade mark.
