my domain isn’t free anymore

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello, I have a problem.

I have been trying to move my blog from Blogger to WordPress. I signed up for a domain, which was free, then I created my blog – and before launching it, the domain was suddenly had to be paid for (the free domain changed into ‘my word’+’numbers’).
The name of the word is a word I made up so I know it is not a googlable word that would be in demand.

A few of my friends have blogs at WordPress, all of them have the name of the blog they wan (name.wordpress.) and all of them have a free plan.

In the end I deleted the whole thing because I was so disappointed about having to pay. I felt scammed.

Is there any way for my domain to be changed back to free?

    Thank you, regards,
    Anja

Are you positive that the address yourword.wordpress.com doesn’t already exist? The first offering of a free address often includes numbers if your preferred address is already taken but you can continue to fine tune the first offer. Perhaps get it down to one number or even no number if you slightly change the word before proceeding.

    Hello,

    thank you for your reply!

yeah, I am positive I created that address (my-made-up-word.wordpress.com). It contained only my word without any numbers.

At the time it was free.

Then I put up the blog, and when I tried to launch it, suddenly I had to pay for it.

Any idea why did this happen? How is it possible to contact WordPress to ask them to change it back?

What was the address you wanted? I see that https://kuharnica.wordpress.com/ has been created and just needs launching. Click on “launch site” then “skip purchase” to the right of the address which displays below the two offers of paid sites. Then click “continue with free” on the next page.
