my domain mapping isn't working
-
I’ve paid for domain mapping but when I enter http://www.akutaq.com, suddenly instead of my wordpress site showing up it’s going to a very scrambled version of a freebie site I had years ago with FreeParking with whom I originally registered akutaq.com Does this mean I’ve been hacked? Please answer in simple terms as I’m a bit of a technotwit!

It looks like your domain is not pointing to WordPress.com name servers yet:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/?host=akutaq.com
Please go to your domain registrar’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for trying to help me. I should have mentioned that the domain has successfully been pointing to the WordPress.com for a long time now without any issue – just for some reason I don’t understand it has now suddenly stopped doing so. I have at least managed to go into the Freeparking control panel and select an ‘Under Construction’ message which looks better than the garbled code that was their before – at least a holding position whilst I learn to speak ‘Techie’. I’ve hunted about under various headings but can’t find anything I can change that looks like what you’ve put above. I can’t see anything called name servers in the available headings…I have emailed their support team but no response as yet – I moved away in part because it was often difficult to elicit a response from them. I’ll read the link you’ve put above and see if any of it makes sense to me! :-)

OK…I’ve cut and pasted the request as shown in that link and have sent it to FreeParking support. As yet I’ve not had any replies to any of my messages and in truth I’m not hopeful based on past experience…but I’ll give it a day and see if they get back to me. Meantime I’ll continue hunting around their control panel and see if I can find something where I could put in the information you provided. :-( Thanks again :-)

Oh hang on…is this what I’m looking for? Although their only seems to be 2 slots to put something in but you gave me 3 pieces of information…
Change DNS Servers
Use this section if you wish to keep the domain on our ipstag, but need to change the DNS Servers. You may make changes in this section at any time. Before using this section you must obtain both the Primary and Secondary Name Server information from your hosting company or ISP.
Both a Primary and Secondary Name Server Name must be entered in the format of a fully qualified host name. For example: NS1.MYISP.NET.
If the name server domain is the same as this domain, then you also need to enter the IP Address of the name servers.
Please note that you do not need to transfer names away from our system if you take advantage of our new DNS Manager. Using the DNS Manager you have complete control over web servers, mail servers and sub domains for your domain name.Domain Name:
Primary Name Server Name:
(i.e. NS1.MYISP.NET)
Primary Name Server IP Address:
(Only needed if the name server name is SOMETHING.)Secondary Name Server Name:
Secondary Name Server IP Address:
(Only needed if the name server name is SOMETHING.)

It seems like you’re on the right track.
You just need to change your domain’s name servers to the following values:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
Afterwards, the change may take up to 48 hours to become fully effective.
Also, once the change is made, clear your browser’s cache:
If you have additional questions, please let us know.

Thanks again…my only question is that given there only seems to be 2 fields I can change, how do I fit in 3 bits of information? Would 2 be enough? :-S
