My domain name NS records are still showing WordPress when site has been deleted
-
Hi,
I had a website lineofsightmultimedia.com.au hosted by WordPress via a redirect from my domain name provider Webcentral.com.au
I have deleted the WordPress site and am trying to build a new site in Squarespace and reassign the domain name accordingly.
The problem is the DNS records still show WordPress as the site host. WhatsmyDNS shows NS records and A records for WordPress.com.
However according to the Control Panel at my domain name provider Webcentral.com.au, the only NS and A records for the domain name are theirs – not WordPress.
It seems as though there is some NS record from WordPress overriding the NS records in my domain name provider’s DNS settings.
So every time I try to connect Squarespace to my domain name provider, instead it seems to be trying to connect to WordPress and the connection fails.
What can I do to resolve this?

Try finding the IP address to the new site. Then go to your other websites DNS area and update the A record.
Updating an A record involves logging into your domain’s DNS settings (usually with your registrar or hosting provider), finding the A record for your domain (e.g.,
@orwww), and editing its value to the new IP address, then saving, but be aware that propagation can take minutes to 24-48 hours for the changes to take effect across the internet. If it’s not updating, check if you’re editing the right DNS host, clear local/browser caches, and ensure any third-party services like Cloudflare are correctly configured. -
It can take up to 72 hours tp propagate changes in dns-settings.
According to https://wordpress.com/site-profiler/lineofsightmultimedia.com.au, that site is hosted by Squarespace.

Thanks @cliquerags and @staartmees ,
Hi @alexcpaige ,The domain http://lineofsightmultimedia.com.au/ is currently registered with Melbourne IT / NetRegistry.
Because of that, it cannot be managed from WordPress.com.The domain is hosted with Squarespace, but it has not been claimed yet.
When you visit the domain, you can see the default Squarespace message confirming this. You can review all related details here:
https://wordpress.com/site-profiler/lineofsightmultimedia.com.auAt this time, the domain has no connection to WordPress.com.

Thanks to everyone who responded and provided advice.
After some investigation I was able to resolve the issue. Posting the solution here so anyone who reaches this forum via google when experiencing a similar situation can see how I solved it, as it may be of use:
The problem was that when I looked at the NS records in the DNS settings panel of my domain name provider, they showed the correct NS records (ie non WordPress).
However, upon further investigation I found there was ANOTHER setting on the domain name provider’s website, independent of the DNS settings panel, which showed the NS settings set to WordPress.com – this was a Name Server setting linked to the Domain Name registration field, and presumably a higher-step setting than those in the DNS settings panel. Once I changed those NS settings away from WordPress, the issue resolved.
