My domain name wont unlock

  I just purchased a hosting plan with HostGator and want to transfrer my blog to a wordpress.org account. I unlocked the domain using the instructions on wordpress.com and wordpress says that the domain is unlocked but when i go to transfer it on hostgator it says that it is still locked. What can i do to transfer my domain?
