My Draft IS GONE

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m really aggravated. Yesterday afternoon I worked on a blog, had a custom created image uploaded to the gallery and inserted in the post. Saved it multiple times while working on it.

Opened up my dashboard today to finish it, and no blog…no image in the gallery either. Very frustrated right now! Other drafts are there from before. Are you only allowed to have 3 drafts or something? If so, there should be an alert.

About an hour of my time was wasted as I have to hunt down the picture I used, again (I did the draft on my office computer and now I’m home) and rewrite the whole darn thing, and find the links I used…

Not happy. Does this happen often?

It doesn’t happen (to me) often, but enough times where I try to keep an offline draft. When I’m ready to save a draft I’ll copy and paste the html into Notepad — which is a PC program, I’m not sure what the Mac alternative would be.

Something else you might want to do, is backup your whole blog occasionally. You can do this by going into your Dashboard, click on the Manage Tab, then find “Export”. You can save your entire blog to your harddrive: “WordPress will create an XML file for you to save to your computer.”

It only takes a minute, but it’s worth it just in terms of peace of mind.

Sorry… I’ve never had your specific problem of losing drafts which have been saved, but I have lost enough drafts due to power failure or a problem during the ‘save process’ to make sure I have a backup before I click on ‘Save’. Normally you can save a draft as many times as you like…

The site linked to your name is not a WordPress.com blog, and we won’t be able to help you with it. Which site are you referring to?

I was also working on a lengthy post today. I saved it half a dozen times. The edits took and everything was fine. When I went back to edit it one more time and publish, all the edits were gone.

I then went and looked at 5 other drafts I worked on today. And every one of them reverted back to its original content which really sucks.

Strange thing is, the drafts did update, and showed the new edits, but when I went in at 9:30pm EST tonight, all the edits were gone.

It is not just one draft, but five of them. It is not just a random glitch or failure of code one time, but five drafts, and at least 15 edits to them.

Hours of tweaking wasted. I know anomaly’s occur, but this is a consistent error.

I am reporting it when the admins open up shop tomorrow but am letting everyone know now to save their posts with an outside editor.

I sent the report to support this morning but did not get a reply. Hopefully they will have time to look into it tomorrow.
I published a post tonight and while i was editing it, everything disappeared. The entire editor, text, photo, tags, just a white box in the center.

I signed out and resigned back in and again all my edits to that post were gone. Damn!!!
I finally got it to post but it was a hassle.

I’m hoping since the automatic post save was on, WordPress can restore those posts from their server.

If that happens when Support is open, send a message in via your Dashboard immediately.

In the meantime, if you’ve lost content maybe it’s a good idea to use an offline blog editor like Blogdesk or Ecto or Windows Live Writer, or even use MS Word (but ONLY if you use the “Send to blog” option, not if you copy/paste).

Rain, yes, I did send it while it was happening. My latest post took me over an hour to publish. I would edit the text, position it, save it and then open it again to publish and what I just edited would be gone.
I learned from my past mistake and I copied the entire html code to my clipboard and simply resubmitted.

I thought about having an editor outside of WordPress, but it seemed to be a bother. Now, not so much.

Thanks for your input and reply.

Three days and counting. Hope the support team can figure out the mess.

Still no answer. And still my drafts are not sticking.

  • Unknown's avatar

I found this on a previous thread answered today. The question was closed but still my blog is affected, and now comment links are broken on my blog.
So, am I out of luck since my blog was and is affected?

    Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience, but this issue was caused by a flakey database server in one of our datacenters. Once the problem was identified, the server was removed from production and fixed. This problem only affected a small % of WordPress.com blogs and only some of the time since we have multiple datacenters which store and serve your blogs’ contents.

I did. They replied last night that they don’t know, are working on it.

I save everything on Notepad and don’t delete it till I see it on my front page. Saves me headaches.

You could use a offline blog editor when you post to
you’re blog it saves a copy of you’re post in the blog editor….

The reason I say offline blog editor is because I recently
deleted a post so I republished a copy of the post back to
    my blog… =)

This has happened to me twice now. Yesterday (saved draft that reverted back and needed to recreate 80% of post) and today – went to save and 80% of my post is gone. I am really surprised, as I’ve never had this problem in 6 months. I’m worried now to blog directly. I don’t have time to re-do every post!

  • Unknown's avatar

So this just happened now. I was writing the post and it was automatically being saved. Then when I was finally done I went to publish it but as it usually happens it instead gets saved. So I click publish again and go to the main page and it’s not there. So I went into the dashboard and neither that post or draft were there at all in the dashboard. So I re-did the post again, which I had already saved myself in Notepad, and I click publish. I go to the main page and now both the same posts are on the main page and now both are also in the dashboard when the first one had disappeared. So I just deleted the first one from the dashboard since that one was the one that completely disappeared from the dashboard and as a draft.

I saw this behavior earlier today; I think I edited one article seven times to get the changes to finally take. Not sure if we’re dealing with a caching problem or what, but hopefully it’s fixed now.
