My email address is attributed to a different site

    I am trying to update my email address for my account since I updated my blog, but it says it’s in use somewhere else. I can clearly prove it’s my email. Not someone else’s. I can contact no one about this since I don’t pay wordpress which seems absurd. How do I get access to my email account back?

    Hi there!

    Live chat and email support are only available to accounts with one of our paid plans. However, the free support forums are also staffed by support staff (like me!) and volunteers, and I’m sure we can get you sorted out here.

    If you see a message that the email is already in use, there’s another user account with that email address. Each WordPress.com account uses a unique email address that must be verified upon creation, so it sounds like you may have created another user account a long time ago using that email address.

    Since you control that email, log out of chronicallytreadingwater and you can reset the password for the other account here using your email address:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

    You’ll then receive an email to create a new password. Then, log into the other account where you can change the email to one not already in use here at WordPress.com, confirm the change, then log back into your chronicallytreadingwater account and update the email.
