This weekend, my site has been constantly going down, and the WordPress.com theme have been giving me no support whatsoever despite it telling me to contact them.

Please, would somebody just help. https://prnt.sc/jt8arm

Your site clubpenguinmountains.com is using the standalone WordPress software and is hosted on Bluehost. Have you tried contacting their support?

If they say this is a WordPress problem, you’ll want to head over to https://wordpress.org/support where they likely have more experience with the type of issue you are having.

Just to clarify, this support forum assists users of WordPressdotcom hosted sites and the guidance provided here may not be relevant to DIY WordPress.org sites hosted with an external hosting provider (e.g. Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.). For more information on the differences: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    Cheers and good luck.

I’m trying to move my servers to Bluehost by their recommendation, but I couldn’t complete the transfer as they are not prepared for the GDPR processes or something similar, so they recommended I change it back to WordPress.com.

I tried changing name servers back to default, and it says it has reset, but it doesn’t because it says I need to verify my email.

    Important: Verify Your Email Address
We need to check your contact information to make sure you can be reached. Please verify your details using the email we sent you, or your domain will stop working. Learn more.

(I don’t want to post the email here on a public forum)

I already updated the contact information to another email though. http://prntscr.com/jt8dt7

Even though I still have access to the email listed, when I click send email, an error appears and the email doesn’t send. https://prnt.sc/jt8dyj

As such, I can’t change the hosts back to WordPress.com on WordPress.com, which is why it seems like a WordPress.com issue.

I’ve gone ahead and tagged this thread for Staff attention. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

It seems fixed now, but will this domain issue ever occur again as at some point, it’s likely I will try and switch to Bluehost again? Thanks.

  • Hi –

Whenever domain changes are made it can take some time for them to fully resolve and propagate.

I can confirm that the domain now loads a WordPress.com site. Is that your intention?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, it is, thank you. However, was this issue a result of time needed to change, or to do with the verification email? The site displayed an issue with an email that I couldn’t solve.

    Sorry, I don’t understand?

@thendralalagar49 It is not polite to hijack someone elses thread. Please can you start your own thread and explain the issues you are facing clearly and also reveal the site you need help with.

  • Unknown's avatar

staff-zinnia The issue occurred again – I can’t update my nameservers back to the WordPress.com ones. Please can you help me do this.

  • The domain has name servers set to WordPress.com and continues to load a WordPress.com site (rather than BlueHost). It can take a few days for all these changes to settle down.

  • Unknown's avatar

staff-zinnia Thank you, I’m just going to try and explain the issue, and see if it helps: earlier today, I was planning to move from WordPress.com to self-hosted WordPress on Bluehost, as you probably can realise. However, when I tried transferring the second time, it seemed almost successfully to work, but then it was rejected. I’ve as such decided to stay with WordPress.com.

I tried resetting my name servers to the default WordPress.com ones, but I’m still getting an issue (https://prnt.sc/jteg5o).

(Please be aware I don’t want my emails on a public forum)

It still says I need to verify the email, but I already did (http://prnt.sc/jtegun) yet the issue is still appearing. As such, I can’t cancel the transfer, as when I click transfer domain to try and cancel it, this appears:

    Resend Verification Email
You must verify your email address before you can transfer this domain. Learn more.

I already verified my email though…here’s what I request:

    1. Keep namehosts directed at the default WordPress.com ones
    2. Cancel any “transfers” which may be pending, if there are any (there shouldn’t be)
    3. Have Privacy Protection enabled again

All of which, as a result, (4.) should hopefully bring my site, clubpenguinmountains.com, back online (I think) without causing issues again, as I don’t want to transfer now.

Please could you help with this/tell me what to do. Thank you.

  • Hi there,

Let’s see if we can sort this out.

I was planning to move from WordPress.com to self-hosted WordPress on Bluehost, as you probably can realise. However, when I tried transferring the second time, it seemed almost successfully to work, but then it was rejected. I’ve as such decided to stay with WordPress.com.

Right. This is because Bluehost is having some issues with incoming domain transfers at this point. You shouldn’t have problems transferring your domain to any other domain provider, though I’m glad to hear you decided to stay :)

It still says I need to verify the email, but I already did (http://prnt.sc/jtegun) yet the issue is still appearing. As such, I can’t cancel the transfer,

The email address is showing as unverified to me. This is because of a change you made in the domain contact information yesterday. But I don’t see any pending transfer on your domain, only the pending contact info update. So you don’t need to cancel any transfer at this point.

I’ve resent the verification email. Please search your email for a new message coming from sales[at]secureserver.net – that is our domain provider’s email. Gmail sometimes sends those emails to the Updates or Social tabs, rather than the inbox, which might explain why you’re not seeing it.

If you still don’t find it, let me know and I’ll email our domain provider to cancel the pending change – that will make the domain contact info go back to what it was before.

    1. Keep namehosts directed at the default WordPress.com ones

Your name servers are already correctly pointed at us.

    2. Cancel any “transfers” which may be pending, if there are any (there shouldn’t be)

I don’t currently see any pending transfers, as mentioned above.

    3. Have Privacy Protection enabled again

That depends on verifying or cancelling the contact info update – we cannot change the privacy status while the change is still pending.

All of which, as a result, (4.) should hopefully bring my site, clubpenguinmountains.com, back online

Your site is online and working normally for me. If it’s not loading for you, it’s possible the name server change is still propagating across the web – this can take up to 72 hours – but it could also just be a caching issue in your browser, so please check if clearing your browser cache, or even flushing your computer’s DNS cache, makes any difference.

    Hi,

Thank you! Did you send the verification to my Gmail address? It seems so, and I just checked it, but nothing appears. I checked “All Mail” too (on two different browsers) and found nothing. My website is back online, but I’m still getting the issue of verifying my email, and it still says Privacy Protection is “Disabled for Transfer”, despite me not wanting to transfer.

    Is there a solution? Thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

Also, there is a notice on my Domain Settings page literally saying that if it isn’t verified, my “domain will stop working.”

    Important: Verify Your Email Address
We need to check your contact information to make sure you can be reached. Please verify your details using the email we sent you, or your domain will stop working. Learn more.

Is there a chance of this happening soon? That would be very worrying, especially since I’m certain I verified the initial email yesterday (http://prnt.sc/jtegun) but am not receiving the new one.

    Thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ah, one last thing, sorry.

If you still don’t find it, let me know and I’ll email our domain provider to cancel the pending change – that will make the domain contact info go back to what it was before

Since I didn’t find it, would it please be possible to do this? I still have access to all emails ever used to register with the clubpenguinmountains.com domain, and I would just like the issues to go away.

Sorry, and thank you very much.

  • Okay, I’ve emailed our domain provider to cancel this change. I’ll let you know once I hear back from them.

    Thank you very much
