My entire website is gone

  • Unknown's avatar

I just went to check my website for the first time in a while and realized that it is gone. I don’t check it often because it doesn’t have or need many updates. Could this be from a credit card not on file anymore?

  • Hi there,

Can you please let me know your site’s address so I can point you in the right direction of getting support?

Please note that these forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If your site is hosted elsewhere, you’ll have to get in touch with your hosting provider.

It was a wordpress site but the other weird thing is that it says I have been a member for 6 years which also isn’t true. I’ve only had this website for 3 -4 years.

  • Got it — so, that website may well be 4 years old. It’s not using our hosting services though, so we don’t have access to troubleshoot.

But can you ask your host for help with this?

This account is separate from that site; you may have made it for another site that uses our services. Here’s the difference between the free software and our services:

    Thank you for that.
Sorry if this is a dumb question but is the hosting services the company that I bought the domain name from? Meaning that the problem with my website is actually the domain name and not the website I built with wordpress.com?
Follow up question to that, would I be able to still see and login into my website through wordpress?

I think there’s some confusion here. There’s three different “WordPress” at play here:

    1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
    2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
    3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software.

Your site is using the WordPress software and is being hosted at One.com based on your domain nameserver information. One.com also appears to be where you registered the domain.

Therefore you would need to reach out to their support to see why your website is down. Since they’re hosting your site’s files, they also have access to those files and are the best ones to help you with this.

Regarding your site login, once your site is restored, your host can advise how you would log into your site again.

Again, we can only help with sites hosted here at WordPress.com so if you need help with WordPress in the future, please reach out to the WordPress community for guidance:

    I hope that clarifies things.
