my ex-domain

    Hi there,

    I recently purchased a domain through your plan, but decided that I wasn’t quite ready for a website.

    Not fully understanding how domains worked, I cancelled my WordPress plan and my domain, hoping the domain would be available to me in the future.

    However, the domain patchbartleet.com is currently unavailable to purchase, and the website lists it as ‘parked’, with a WordPress logo on the site.
    Will this domain become available again to purchase again once the refund is processed?

    Hi there,

    Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. You should never cancel a domain that you still want to use, as when you cancel a domain, you give up ownership of it, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to use it again somewhere else in future.

    We can still restore that domain for you, but I see you’ve also deleted this WordPress.com account, so you won’t even be able to reply to this forum thread any more.

    If you want us to restore this domain, please reply to the account closure confirmation email we sent you so we can reopen your account and help you recover the domain.

    Alternatively the domain should be released within a few days in this case, and you should be able to register it again at the provider where you want to use it early next week.

    Your refund has already been processed and finalised on our end, and has no bearing on when the domain name will become available again – that is controlled by the registry that manages all .com domains on the web.
