My existing site
-
I already have a site up and running, the current hosts are closing their hosting business so I have to move it.
I want the existing site to continue until I have designed a new one, will transferring it mean the existing site stops working? -
Hi ifansecretary,
I want the existing site to continue until I have designed a new one, will transferring it mean the existing site stops working?
That’s fine — you can start by creating a free site on WordPress.com, then import content and media. This process won’t affect your current site.
When you are ready to switch over to WordPress.com, the domain can be mapped or transferred here. At that point, visiting the domain will no longer load the site with your current host — only the one you have created on WordPress.com.
Are you using WordPress.org software with your current host?

Hi
Thanks for the reply,I am using Serif WebPlus X8, I gather that I can export the site in HTML 5.
Serif are closing their hosting services, so my preference would be to transfer the site as is to a new host and then redesign it using different software.
Thanks

Hi Andrea,
For best results, you’ll need to export your content in a WXR format XML file as it’s not possible to directly upload or import HTML files on WordPress.com.
However, if you can’t export your content in that compatible format, you can follow this guide we have put together for importing from HTML site builders:
