My feed doesn’t look like what I’m used to
-
I’m new to blogging and somewhat new to RSS feeds. When I subscribe to a feed in my feed reader (Thunderbird) for other sites I basically get a copy of the web page with the article on it. When I subscribe to my feed (and several other WordPress feeds) I just get the text of the article (plus any pics that are added into the article), but nothing else.
Am I missing something?

When I view my other feeds in Thunderbird it looks *EXACTLY* like I’m looking at a web page in my web browser.
Here are 3 feeds that I get that look “right”:
http://www.wizards.com/rss.asp?x=dnd
http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/rss/index.xml
http://feeds.feedburner.com/TreasureTablesWhen I get my feed (http://endlessquest.wordpress.com/feed/) all I get is the text of the post that I wrote – no graphics, colors, links, nothing – just the text. The same goes for all the other wordpress feeds I tried. This leads me to believe it is something to do with the default way WordPress publishes feeds, but as I mentioned I’m new to this.
Thanks.

demiurge: do you have another blog other than endless quest?
Looking at your blog you have two posts and neither of them contain anything other than text.
-
I know when I use Bloglines to pull up a WordPress.com feed, it comes up with pics and the text and all that.
Can you pull http://kpremixed.tdjc.be/feed/ and tell me what you get? There’s lots of pictures on that one. :)
Must be something with Thunderbird because with Bloglines, I get pics with the scifi feed, links only with the wizards feed (And if you actually look at the feed, that’s all you get anyway), and just the first 100 characters of each post of the TTables one.
edit: You may want to try to also see if Thunderbird likes any of the other feeds that WordPress can kick out. The standard one is RSS 2.0 which appears to be what the other sites are using. You can find a listing of examples located here under the bit about custom permalinks. Try the Atom one first.

Okay, hopefully these screen shot will better describe what I’m looking at:
This is what I see in Thunderbird when I look at the feed for Wizards.com: http://users.adelphia.net/~demiurge/images/wizardsfeed.jpg
And for the Sci Fi Feed:
http://users.adelphia.net/~demiurge/images/scififeed.jpgAnd for the Treasure Tables feed:
http://users.adelphia.net/~demiurge/images/ttfeed.jpgThis is what I see when I look at my site feed:
http://users.adelphia.net/~demiurge/images/endlessquestfeed.jpgThis is what I see on the Kim Possible feed:
http://users.adelphia.net/~demiurge/images/kimpossiblefeed.jpgWhy don’t the last two display like the first three? The first three look just like the web page for that particiular post, where the last two just show the body of the post itself?

demurge.. the text and graphics of the individual posts are exactly what you’re supposed to see. It’s an advantage believe it or now :)
Thunderbird has options to “display webpage” or not or something like that. Check the properties of the feeds in Thunderbird.

I’m sure some would consider it an advantage, but it isn’t what I want it to look like. Do I take it that this is just the way it is with WordPress and I’ll need to move on to another blog package do it the way I want? Curiously enough, the feed for this discussion displays with all the html formatting intact in Thunderbird.
Thunderbird only has an option for “By default show article summary instead of loading the web page” which I have disabled. All my other feeds were done with the default settings anyhow.
Thanks for your help.

The option should be under Tools > Account Setting. At least that’s what a quick websearch pulls up.
-
demiurge – try adding the feed again. RSS support in Thunderbird doesn’t always behave IME.
-
drmike: Yes, I know. That is the setting I mentioned and set either way makes no difference.
donncha: I’ve added and re-added it several times to no avail.
I’ve also posted this as a support question but not received a response yet.
