My Follow Count is SHORT. Not keeping up with new subscribers.

I’ve heard back from no one on the inquiry I put out 9 days ago and have been waiting on, stating that my follow count did not seem correct. Since, I have had proof the counter is not keeping up with my new subscribers.

This evening, my count has gone up by only 1 when these two recently signed on.

Can someone please look into this and if no one can tell me why I’m short three followers on the counter, would Staff manually update it??

Can Staff see who among my followers unsubscribed in the last hour? My count just went down by 1 and this happened 10 days ago when my Counter was not registering all my followers. So it doesn’t seem to be a desubscription but part of the problem with the inaccurate recording of followers.

My last post in this thread about the dip in the follow count was a test I forgot I had asked a blogger to run, the stopandpray site you see above. Sorry. Well, the count dipped and then went up by 1 with his unfollow and refollow. But this still leaves me with a count short (on the support from heart meditations). If this post happens to be confusing, you can ignore it. The test I ran showed nothing except that the issue I first posted in this thread remains. Thank you. And if TT sees this, thanks for getting back to me. I can wait, as I did 10, 11 days ago. It is very nice just to hear back.

Hi there!
While you do get email notifications when you get a new follower to your site, you do not get a notification if someone stops following your site. So while you may have gained two followers, you might also have lost one follower.
Also, when you get a notification but don’t see the person in your followers list, it’s either because someone accidentally followed your site and unsubscribed right away or they may have changed their mind about following your site and unsubscribed.

I got what you’re saying, that you feel the counter is accurate and that it dips when someone unfollows. But it just seems too coincidental that 1)in the very short space of time these two followed one after the other, my count went up by only 1

Please: any way to look at how well my follow counter is functioning?
If I’m right, I’m short two followers on record (since I will have to assume ripeberriesmoon followed accidentally and then canceled).

With followers, it’s entirely up to the individual user whether they wish to follow a site, not the site owner. On WordPress.com’s side, we don’t track a site’s following/unfollowing history – only whether a given user is following a site in the present moment
It can be challenging to build up a loyal readership but creating top notch content on a regular basis always helps and never hurts. Here are some resources that might help:

I simply would like the peace and assurance that I can trust my counter! Which I’ve not been able to. Related issue: You’d said last time that if a follower is not logged on, I will not receive notice of his follow. Since I’ve been reporting this issue of not receiving email notif of all follows, about 40% of my follows have gone unreported. John Cha, case in point, was commenting with me back and forth when he followed earlier this month, I think, and so must’ve been logged on.
So something’s not seemed right. BUT if you can tell me why those two still show up on my stats list, that’d be great. It does not seem plausible that twice now, my counter registered only one when two followed back-to-back. Thanks so much for your time and assistance!

Happened again. Lisa’s follow shoulda brought me to 310 but hers didn’t register on the counter, though she shows up on my stats list. I never got an email on her follow.

It just doesn’t seem likely at all that just when someone follows me, another unfollows – and that this would’ve happened three times. So to date, I am short three on my counter.

I solved this last issue I posted – sort of.
soomteestar is now following your blog – I got this last night as well as on May 13. So it’s hers, not Lisa’s that did not register on the counter bc hers is a double-follow. **But when she clicks to follow someone she already is, doesn’t she get word “you are already following this blog”?
Last wk, when I asked a blogger to help me test the system by unfollowing, then refollowing, I noticed that the email notification of his follow disappeared from my inbox and of course my counter dropped. So soomteestar never actually unfollowed me, apparently…because the original notice of her first follow has remained in my inbox.
But I remain perplexed on the issue I opened this ticket with, on

I made an error earlier – the tool I used to check “miso808” and “paulsdahlman” checked them against your email subscribers when they were actually WordPress.com Reader followers. They are showing properly under your WordPress.com followers in your stats.
However, there are clearly some misunderstandings about how some of our technologies work.
When an email is sent, it is broadcast once, much like a piece of physical mail is, to your inbox. We do not maintain control over it once it is sent. If someone unfollows your blog, that email does not disappear from your inbox. We also send you an email every time someone follows your blog. It may be that you do not see them due to spam filters or blocks by your email provider, however we do send them.
In regards to how many followers you have, I can clearly see in your statistics that you have 289 WordPress.com, 13 email followers, and 8 Tumblr followers, which combine to make 310. On the front of your site, you have 310 followers. The math does seem to add up.

Ok, so it is odd then that the email notice of the praytv blogger’s follow disappeared from my inbox with his test unfollow. And as I said, I’m not getting email notification on almost 40% of new subscribers. I don’t know why suddenly my email provider, the grand GMAIL, would block those. I know the math on my WP, email, and Tmblr followers adds up to 310. This has been my chief concern:
