My Free wordpress.com Blog Might Be Infected with Malware?
-
Some of my readers have reported that there are malware redirects added into my site. I’m not using like, wordpress.org and hosting it on a server, *wordpress.com* is hosting the site, so like, what do I do? I don’t have access to the part of the code where the malware might be located, because I’m on the free version. WordPress.com is supposed to handle that, that’s the whole point of using it. What do I do?

Your site appears fine to me. You can check your site here: https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/ It is highly unlikely to be WordPress.com that is compromised. Your readers might have their own browsers infected. Or are your readers visiting your site using iPhones as there seem to be a number of malware attacks currently targeting those devices.

I’m having the same issue with my site and finding everyone impacted is on an iOS device (although in one case it was a MacBook..i’m guessing it’s the same Apple OS). But what I can’t understand is why it only happens to them when they’re on my site…they all say it doesn’t happen on any other site but mine.
Could it be something in the WordPress ads that triggering it? -
Hi there,
This is likely caused by adware running in the Safari browser. Google “iOS pop ups” and you’ll find many reports of this happening on a variety of websites, not just WordPress.com. Ads like this have been showing up on iOS since at least 2014 from what I can find, but it appears to be on the increase in the past few weeks.
Set your device to airplane mode and force-quit Safari. Restart Safari and completely clear the browser cache and history. Then disable airplane mode. Based on the articles I could find about this issue, that should stop the pop-ups from appearing.
