My friend can't sign up for new blog

I’m very frustrated. I recommended WordPress to a friend and was all set to help her set up her blog but we can’t get her successfully registered. She only wants the basic free blog for now. From what we can tell, she did everything and hasn’t received an email confirmation. She went into support and tried to have them resend the email, but it doesn’t recognize her email (though it is correct). She can’t use support because she can’t log in. There is no number or email for her to contact. Does anyone know what else we can do? I can’t believe such a good platform seems to care so little about signing up new users. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please my your friend check in their email client spam/ junk mail filter as well as your “social” tab in Gmail, if they use Gmail. Thanks! It was either in a place she hadn’t looked or took a long time to be sent (she swears she checked all those other filters). One of the frustrations was that she wasn’t sure her form had been received since there was no clear “submit” or “register” button or confirmation screen.
Now she can start puttering!

re: front page error message on every new blog
By default the front page of the blog is the only page that will display all published posts on it. As soon as you publish a post not a page the error message will be gone. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
