My friends cant enter my private blog, even after sending invitations!

Okay, so I made my blog private since I’m using it to publish my book. I invited non-wordpress users to my private blog through sending emails by going to Users> Invite New. All the friends who got the invitation said that even after clicking Accept Invitation or whatever it is that was written on the button, they ended up in a page telling them that the blog is actually private and they must ask for permission from the owner, or try to log in with their wordpress account.
I made for myself another wordpress account in order to test it myself, and the same thing happened. So I ended up turning it public. I now see people from England entering!
Another problem: Even thought one person is following the blog, but others will follow later, but why aren’t they receiving anything? I published more 2 pages after my friend started following and asked if she receive something, she said nothing at all! So yeah, I followed myself, and didn’t receive anything.
Please help with those two problems.

Sorry, I mean what about the first problem, in which my friends can’t access even after accepting my invitations?!!
