My front page won't show summaries

My front page won’t show summaries, only full text. I’ve gone into the reading page of settings and changed it to summaries, but I can’t get it to work. Please help.

The setting you used is for how your RSS feed goes out.
For each article in a feed you can select Full text or Summary. Full text means that the entire contents of a post are included in the feed. Summary means that only the first 55 words are included in the feed, along with the option to continue reading the rest of the post.
Which option to use is a matter of some debate. Visit Problogger’s view for some more information. This setting also affects what your followers receive in their email subscriptions.
It’s confusing because that comes from

Twenty Ten will also display custom excerpts on category and other archive pages. This means you can write a summary of your post, different from the first few lines of a post. You can include formatting and images as well but no shortcodes like video or galleries.
