My gallery needs surgery….
-
I was advised to add pictures one by one instead of trying to use the gallery. Fine, I’ve been doing it without too much trouble.
However, I watched a little youtube from WordPress explaining exactly how to add multiple photos using the gallery. Of course, I wanted to try it, but now I see that my poor gallery already has 37 photos inside, and I would love to delete 30 of them, to add only 7
Is it possible? I could not find anything in the forum, except a few remarks about the gallery being a bit “unfriendly” ;-)
thanks in advance, as usual

Galleries are tied to posts, and any image uploaded when that post was open in the editor will be linked to that post gallery.
What you would have to do is to go to media > edit in your dashboard and then delete the images that you did not want to be in that gallery. Since wordpress works off of a MySQL database, it might be 24 hours before those images will actually disappear when you click the gallery tab though. I’ve never tried it so I don’t know that for sure, but I suspect that might be the case.
If you are going to use a gallery in a post, only upload the images you want in that gallery while that post is open.
Hopefully wordpress will give us the ability to select which images we want in a gallery at some point, but we do not have that ability right now.

I might be wrong, but I don’t see a gallery in your blog. Are you talking about a draft post? If so, a post you wish to publish or not?
-
It is a draft post, indeed. In the making still :-)
I am going to publish it tomorrow, but if I don’t figure the gallery thing out, it’s ok, I can add photos one by one.

Solution 1 as suggested by tsp: Media > Library > tick the 30 unwanted images, select Delete from the “Bulk Actions” dropdown, click Apply.
Solution 2: copy content of draft from html editor, create new draft, paste content in html editor, reupload the 7 wanted images, delete original draft.
-
Actually, I just started doing that! Solution 2, that is….
of course, now I have found yet another small problem, in that the order my computer lists the photos (same name but ascending numbers) does not correspond to the order shown in the gallery. For some reason, no matter what I do, the last photo pops up in the second position.
I think I might just try to learn this trick later and go with my boring style of posting tomorrow – by now I have so many drafts and galleries floating around that it’s making me dizzy
:-)THank you and thesacredpath!
