My gmail is down due to lapsed renewl

    HEY,

    my gmail is down > (email visible only to moderators and staff), due to the fact that I haven’t renewed the domain that it’s linked with: zigzagadelaide.com.

    So I need to reinstate my Gmail ASAP! But I don’t actually need or want the domain anymore, as the business is defunct. What Can I do here?

    Please Help.

    There is no way for the email forwarding to keep working if you no longer own the domain. The email works because of DNS records that are added to the domain, and those records were deleted along with the domain when it was removed from our system.

    The only way to keep using that email is to renew the domain. At this point your domain has entered into the redemption phase, which means we need to manually recover it from our registrar, and they charge us $80 to restore a domain at this stage of expiration. If you want to get the domain back, I’ll need you to agree to this fee before I can start the process. There’s no other way to retain possession of your custom email address.

    My email is working partially tho, I’ve been receiving mail today.
    How does that work?

  • Do you mean you’re receiving emails at your Gmail address? That has nothing to do with us. The @zigzagadelaide.com email you had set up with us was merely a forwarding address that passed emails along to your existing Gmail address. The domain expiring cancels the forwarding address, not your Gmail address. Anyone who knows your Gmail address can still send emails there directly.

    Ok, I need to give the go ahead to renew the domain.
    Happy to pay the $80!

    Your domain has been restored and I’ve reconnected it to your site. You will need to re-verify your email forwarding before it will work again, though. I’ve resent the verification email so you can do that.
