My header picture keeps vanishing on its own
-
I have 2 problems –
1) First – my header picture keeps vanishing on its own. After uploading it and saving it yesterday, it was displaying properly but today it wasn’t displaying nor was it on the header page in the admin section. This has happened a couple of times earlier. have to keep re-uploading the image (I have done so now as I write this). Not sure when it will vanish.2) Some of my formatting goes a bit awry. Specially in the case of some poems I’ve written. On the laptop it still shows fine but on a tablet/phone the lines go haywire. You’ll be able to see for yourself if you open my blog in those devices and see the latest post which is a poem (when i write the poems, I have to press space bar to move to the next line, which is where the formatting gets lost I think)
It’ll be great of you could advise please
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
1) First – my header picture keeps vanishing on its own. After uploading it and saving it yesterday, it was displaying properly but today it wasn’t displaying nor was it on the header page in the admin section.
Can you describe the exact steps you take to upload the header image? Also, do you make any changes afterwards in your site’s media library? That will help me sort out what’s going on with your header.
2) Some of my formatting goes a bit awry. Specially in the case of some poems I’ve written.
Using the space bar to create new lines like that can cause problems when someone views your blog on a different-sized device (like a mobile device). Instead, I’d recommend using preformatted text to make sure your poetry keeps the formatting you want — we have more details about creating preformatted text to explain how that works.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hey Rachel.. thanks for your help. I’ve understood the formatting issue and will give it a go.
With regards the ‘mystery of the header picture disappearing’, here are the steps I follow(ed) to upload its –
Appearance > Header > Browse (to select image from laptop) > uploadThen I select the radio button against the uploaded images (only one image) and NOT random.
I should also inform you that the thumb nail in my media library for the header image is blank (the thumb nail is there but the image is not displayed.. in fact there are 4 blank thumb nails of the header image representing each time I had to re-upload)
Pl. do advise. Thanks.

Thanks for describing those steps. Could you try uploading the header in your site’s Customizer? The Appearance > Header page is being phased out, so it’s possible you’re running into a glitch there and the customizer will work better for you.
You can go to the “Header Image” section in the customizer and use the “Add new image” button to upload an image there.
Please let me know how that goes!

You’re welcome! Do let me know if the problem pops up again and I can keep investigating it. :)

Hey rachel… I’m back requesting for help again. While my header problem I think is solved, thanks a lot once again, I’m getting stuck with the preformatted text to get my text aligned for poems, etc.
I went through the link you shared & I’ve tried putting&
before & after. However it’s not formatting the text and instead the syntax gets displayed along with other text on preview or publishing.
Do you have any advice please?

Haha.. in my reply I had included the preformatting syntax and it’s not showing up. So my previous reply should read “I’ve tried putting pre & /pre” in the appropriate <> but doesn’t seem to be working. Instead the syntax gets displayed along with other text.
Funnily it’s working in this text box but not my editor

Hi Sandeep,
If you’re typing in the pre tags yourself, be sure to switch over to the Text/HTML tab in the editor first. That way you can add the HTML pre tags and have them work (instead of showing up as text when you publish it).
If that doesn’t work for you, please give me a link to a post where you tried that so I can take a closer look. :)

Hi Rachel,
Here’s a link where I tried it through the text editor like you mentioned but still finding it difficult to align – http://sandeepburman.com/2015/04/29/why-is-life-so-difficult/
The line “Time to reflect upon the cause” needs to go to the next line. Also across mobile and tablets, the formatting goes haywire. If you scroll down the blog sandeepburman.com you’ll easily see this happens for all the poetry links.
Do let me know please.
Cheers,

Hi Sandeep,
The pre tags will need to surround the entire poem to make the formatting work correctly, like this:
<pre>There are times in our lives, When we think it's not worth the strife. That we'd rather quit this crap, Get the hell out of this miserable trap. Like many, if you too think life is hard, That you've been dealt the wrong card, Maybe it's time to pause, Time to reflect upon the cause. If your mirror does not lie, And to see the truth you are not shy, In the reflection you will see, Life is only as difficult as YOU make it to be. Relinquish your obsessive need to control all of your existence, And the Universe will yield to your every wish, even if it's nonsense.</pre>That will make the spacing stick for all of the text in the poem. Can you give that a try and see how it goes?

Hi Rachel,
Just tried that but it seems to have eaten up most of the lines – http://sandeepburman.com/2015/04/29/why-is-life-so-difficult/ (It’s just displaying the 1st line from each paragraph now).
Earlier, when I converted from visual to text, there was a pre tag at beginning of each para & post at end of each para (the output was the previous link). I’ve removed them and have one right at the beginning & one right at the end now.

Hi Sandeep,
I checked and I see the preformatted text working the way it’s supposed to now. Here’s a screenshot of what I see: https://cloudup.com/cu9gdVcLjVu
It will show the exact spacing you enter between those pre tags, so if you need you can add or delete spaces depending on how you want it to be formatted. (For example, you can use the “Enter” key to add a new line, and delete the extra spaces unless you want a line to be indented.)

Hi Rachel.. yes you are right. I had included space bars to align the lines hence the problem. Now I’ve got it working. Thanks so much again.
One last piece of help please. Somewhere during the course of all this I’m not sure which key I pressed by mistake but my entire admin panel display has shrunk. The font size is barely readable across my admin panel. How can I get back to the normal view of the admin panel?
-
Hi Sandeep,
I’m so glad that’s working for you now. :)
It sounds like you may have zoomed out in your browser while looking at the admin panel. If you’re using Firefox, you can follow these steps to reset the zoom levels there:

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that!

Hey rachel.. it’s fixed now. You are a rockstar. Thank you so much. I know who exactly to ping now for any wordpress help :)
Have a fun day. Cheers.
