My header was hacked
-
Around 6:45 AM I visited my site on my android tablet, and I was shocked to see that my header image had been hacked. I am using the Twenty Ten theme, and I had uploaded a single image to use as my header. Instead of that header being used, there was an animated gif of dancing chipmunks with musical notes (like from the chipmunks cartoon). I used my dashboard to view my header settings (https://trekohio.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=custom-header). Here’s what I saw there. The preview image was still my real header (the one that I had actually uploaded). Below under my listing of uploaded images, there was only one image: not the one in the preview that I had uploaded, but the dancing chipmunks image. Since I was using a tablet, I didn’t have anyway of taking a screenshot. So I put aside my tablet and logged on via my computer. Within five minutes I had logged on to my computer, and my homepage displayed normally with my genunine header image. When I went to the dashboard settings page for the header, there was only the one uploaded image as before, but it was my personal image next to the radio button. I went back to my Android tablet. I had been using Opera Mobile as my browser there. When I selected the tab for the dashboard, the preview was still the chipmunk image, but as I selected the tab the page reloaded, and now things are back to normal on my tablet too.
As a precaution I have changed my password. However, since there were never any signs that a second image had been uploaded to be used as a header to my account, it suggests to me that someone has hacked your server rather than my account and perhaps was doing a test.

I’m not sure what happened, but right now I don’t see anything unusual going on with your site, and it appears your header is normal.
Hopefully it won’t happen again. If it does, please let us know, and if possible, do try to grab a screenshot.
