My hidden posts were deleted

Back in 2011, I wanted to reorganize my WordPress page. So I decided to hide all my posts until I knew what I wanted. But then I decided not to write anything for the time being. When I decided to log in again in WordPress, all my posts were… Not anymore. I simply can’t find them.
I don’t know if I didn’t get very well how the “Hide” function works. I don’t know what the hell happened.
Is there anyway I can recover my posts?

Hi there! It looks like four years ago, you put all of your posts in the trash. The trash is automatically emptied after 30 days, like your email trash.
Those posts were all deleted quite a while ago, so I can’t help you restore them.

It’s been a while, so I don’t remember every detail quite clearly. But I’m almost sure that I was hiding the posts, not putting them on a trash. I marked them all and there was an option to hide them.
I can be mistaken, but in my mind I’m thinking there were two different things: hiding posts and the thrash can. Those were two different functions.
Now I’m confused.

As far as I remember and can tell from my searches, we’ve never had a ‘hide’ function. We do have private posts though.
I can see in our logs that the posts were deleted 30 days after they were put in the trash at the start of 2011. And then another group of posts was trashed in the middle of the year and deleted 30 days later. This means that the folder you were moving them to was working as I’ve described the trash does.
I apologize that it was unclear what you were doing at the time, however there’s no way for me to restore those posts.

Well, one thing I am sure of: when selecting a post, one of the options was “ocultar” (portuguese for “hide” — that should be similar with the private posts you mentioned).
But now I really don’t know what went wrong, since the posts I thought were private (or hidden) ended up being deleted. This I really can’t understand. It was never my intention to delete any post. I just wanted to make them private.
If you could help me understand that, I will be very happy, but you already helped me a lot, so thank you very much.

It sounds like we possibly had a bad translation back then. It looks like that string is currently translated to “Mover para a lixeira” in Brazilian Portuguese and “Mover para o lixo” in Portuguese, which are nearly the same translations I see recorded for 2011.
I do see several other strings that include “ocultar” in both languages though. It’s possible the string has changed over time and I’m not seeing that reflected in our translations.
