My host expired
-
Hi Guys, Desperate need for your help. My domain reviejane.com has expired. This issue was allegedly fixed this time last year (case number #3335807) , when I asked Alex G a person from your team to update my email address. I also asked that my domain gets automatically renewed and this did not happen either.
So my website has expired again and I would like to renew it ASAP so that it doesn’t go into a holding period. Please help. Contact me on (email visible only to moderators and staff) -
Hi there,
The domain, reviejane.com, expired on 7 June and has already been removed from our system. It is currently in redemption with our registrar. It is still possible for me to recover the domain at this point, but our registrar charges a $80 fee to restore a domain from redemption.
However, that domain does not belong to the account you’re using to post here, and we cannot redeem it at your request. Please log in as the WordPress.com username account you’d used to purchase the domain, revieschulz, and then reply here to confirm whether you agree to the redemption fee, and we can get the process started for you.
It looks like there’s another domain in that account that expires today, and which also needs to be renewed if you don’t want it to enter redemption.
I asked Alex G a person from your team to update my email address. I also asked that my domain gets automatically renewed and this did not happen either.
The Gmail address you provided here is associated with this account you’re using to post in the forums, revieschulz153301147.
The account that owns the domain is associated with a completely different email address, and renewal reminders for the domain would have been sent there. However, I looked over your email exchange with Alex and another member of our support staff, and you never requested that they change the email address on that account. If you had, they would also have told you this is something you needed to do yourself, as we cannot make that change for you.
As for the automatic renewal, that did not succeed because the credit card we have on file for you expired in March. We sent you an email when the renewal failed because of that on 8 May.

Hi There I have managed to log into the correct WordPress account and would like to retrieve reviejane.com ASAP. I agree with the redemption fee. Please let me know if there is anything you need to start the process.
After we complete the retrieval I would love to update my email on there and CC so this never happens again. Thanks for your help.

Hi there, I’ve tagged staff so they’ll likely respond within a few hours to start the process: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

Thanks for logging into the correct account. I’ve sent you a payment link via email. Once we receive your payment I can email our domain provider to restore the domain.
As I mentioned above, you also have another domain in your account, reviejane.co, that expired today. Please renew that domain from the Purchases page if you want to keep on using it:
https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/
You can update the email address on your account here:
https://wordpress.com/me/account/
Please note, however, that you won’t be able to use the same Gmail address as you’re using for the other account you used to post here. If you want to use that Gmail address, you’ll first need to log into that account and change its email address to something else so that Gmail address becomes available for this account.
To update the contact email for your domain registration, please follow the instructions here (though you’ll only be able to do that for the .com domain once it’s restored):
https://en.support.wordpress.com/update-contact-information/
And to enable automatic renewal and add a new card, go to the Purchases screen once the domain is restored, click on the domain, and click the Add Payment Method button that should be visible there.
@torres126, there is no need to re-modlook a thread if a staff member has already replied. It will not make us reply any faster, and as it causes a thread to appear in multiple queues for us, it can in fact make it take longer for us to get to it. -
Ah, okay. That would have been sent to the address you had connected to your account at the time. And it looks like that email is still connected to your account, as the email address update has not been confirmed yet.
Please check the Gmail address that you added as the new email on this account. We sent a verification email to that address with a link you need to click to complete the change. If the email is not in the inbox, also check Spam, as well as the Social and Updates tabs in Gmail.
Once you’ve verified the email change, let me know and I can resend the payment link.

Hi @kokkieh,
Thank you I checked my spam and the email to verify had gone there.
I still could not locate the Payment Link if that was sent there (not sure I understood you correctly.
Regardless could you please resend it to my updated accounts email address which should now be verified as (email visible only to moderators and staff) ?
Sorry if I am slow, I have a two year old and just had another baby 3 weeks ago so the sleep deprivation is real.

Okay. Now the account email is updated, thank you.
I’ve resent the payment link, and it should now go to that Gmail address.

Oof! I have only a two-year-old, and she already causes enough sleep deprivation on her own, so you have my sympathy :)
-
Hey @kokkieh,
Okay so I got it the link and have paid it – Yay!
Is that from me for the moment? How long does this process usually take?
I have also paid for the renewal of the other domain.
I would like to set up an auto renewal for reviejane.com is this possible yet or do I need to wait for the site to be back up?
Thank you kindly for helping me with this. Such a nightmare in my state but we are almost there!
-
Thank you for your payment. I’ve emailed our domain provider to restore the domain. They usually respond within 24 hours, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear back from them.
You’ll have to wait for the domain to be restored to your account before you can enable automatic renewal for it. But I can confirm auto-renew is now active again for your other domain, reviejane.co.
-
Hi @revieschulz,
The reviejane.com has been restored and is now active. Let us know if you experience any issues with the domain, but it should be fine going forward. :)

Thank you guys for retrieving my domain, I really appreciate that!
a) When I log into WordPress, reviejane.co is showing up but reviejane.com is not.
b) I was hoping to automatically renew but because of the above I cannot do this.
c) Which brings me to ask, what is the process of having the domains transferred to my Host Gator account where my website is located? If so, what are the costs, process time/ possible interruptions?
d) If a transfer is possible will my emails be affected while the transfer is happening?
Thank you for your assistance in this.

To have your site show up under My Sites, you would need to install and connect the Jetpack plugin to that user account. It would then show up there and you could access it from My Sites.
See this support page on transferring a domain name to another registrar.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/
Since your domain settings are all in place, and none of that will change, only the registrar, any interruption there should be no interruption.
You can manage this domain name by going to https://wordpress.com/me/purchases, click on the right angle bracket next to the domain name and you will see the sections where you can manage your domain name.

Hi there,
To have your Hostgator site at reviejane.com show up in My Sites you need to connect Jetpack, as @thesacredpath indicated above, but to manage the domain itself you need to select the WordPress.com site it’s attached to in My Sites: revieschulz.wordpress.com. Even if you connect the Hostgator site here via Jetpack, you still need to go to the old WordPress.com site to access the options for this domain.
But enable automatic renewal you don’t go directly to the domain in any case. That is done from the Purchases page.
c) Which brings me to ask, what is the process of having the domains transferred to my Host Gator account where my website is located? If so, what are the costs, process time/ possible interruptions?
There is no cost to do this on our end, but there will likely be a cost on Hostgator’s, so you’ll need to ask them about that.
A domain transfer typically takes around a week from the moment you submit the transfer code at your new registrar, but as also mentioned above, your domain should continue working normally during this process – your domain’s name servers are already pointed at Hostgator, and neither those nor the DNS records that your email account uses should be changed during the transfer process.
