My husband is living in China and cannot open my blog: xxx.wordpress.com
-
My husband is living in China and he can’t open my blog – he has no access to the blog.
I’m in Germany and have no problems to open it. Is it because of “wordpress” in the address? How could I change the address xxx.wordpress.com into something without wordpress? Because I’m also moving to China and because of this problem I cannot go further with my blog.
Thanks for help. -

I don’t know why you are having that problem, but perhaps this link could help you. -
get a free .co.nr domain name from http://www.freedomain.co.nr and use it to access ur blog. other than that i have no ideas.
BTW, this is new to me. is wordpress banned in china ? i thought i saw a couple (or more) of chinese language blogs over here.

Chinese language blogs don’t necessarily originate in China, there are for example a number of Chinese in Singapore.
We have had previous reports that wordpress.com is intermittently blocked by the Chinese authorities, and the thread suggests some possible workarounds. This page may also help.

I don’t think it is just wordpress that is blocked. Censorship exists there from what I understand. That is a good link, wank.

Above is another page you may find interesting.
Looks like you have your reading cut out for you. ;) -
To answer the rest of the question she asks, your best bet would be get hosting for your blog elsewhere and install the WordPress software yourself. After you are setup, export out your blog here and imported to your new blog hosted elsewhere. You will have to find a WordPress XML importer plugin though. There are a couple of them available.
I doubt just changing the URL of his blog would help as I’m sure China has put in an IP block that would block access to the actual servers. (That’s how they’ve done it in the past with my boxes.)

I found this on another thread as to how to possibly get around the censorship:
Add .nyud.net:8090 to the domain name portion of the URL

Says, she’s able to access it behind a proxy. Well, I’m still searching for one more known chinese blogger to confirm this.
-
Um, Nosy, while you and I would love to see her be able to access these sites, you might be suggesting that she commit a felony in her country.

Agreed but she said she was moving to Germany to be with the hubby.
Boils down to this. There are ways around bypassing the governmental blocks but please do remember that doing so is probably illegal there and might get you into trouble.
-
I’m sure anyone moving to China would be more than aware of the need to be careful. My point was that nosysnoop telling somebody in Germany about proxies is not leaving the wordpress.com forums liable for anything that might happen in another country :)

From within China, install Tor Client and you will be able to access blocked websites and also get to the wordpress dashboard, which is very difficult without it. Search for Tor Client on google.
