My identity was inadvertently stolen by a contributor to my blog – help!

Please help! A contributor to my blogs (http://catoverthemoon.wordpress.com + http://simpleconsciousliving.wordpress.com) left a comment on another WordPress blog yesterday and it showed the comment as being left by ME. The contributor doesn’t have my login information and posted the comment from his home computer (which I’ve never used). I am the only administrator and I just double-checked – he has contributor permission only for my account.

Prior to becoming a contributor to my blogs, he had registered on the other blog (as himself) so that he could leave comments – all of his prior comments on this blog appeared as being from him.

How did this happen and how can I fix it? I don’t want my identity being used, even if inadvertent.

    Thanks!

It sounds like they logged out and input your name and your email in the comment fields so when they clicked submit the comment would look like it came from you.

If your wondering how they got your email they looked under the user role page. (on the dashboard)

How to fix the issue kick them off your blog then change your email in the account settings. then don’t add the person back.

If you chose the route to change your email you will also need to visit http://en.gravatar.com and update your email their also so your avatar will show up when you leave comments.

I just talked with the person in question – he intended to leave the comment as himself and didn’t use my name or email. He’s as puzzled as I am. He had logged in to WordPress as himself and was viewing the dashboard for my blog account (to which he is a contributor), to look at recent stats, and then went to the other WordPress blog and shortly thereafter left the comment that appeared as coming from me.

When he saw that the post had my name on it, he immediately contacted me and asked how to fix the problem. That’s when I searched the support and forum pages, trying to find an answer…

Knowing that he went directly from my blog account to another blog and then left the post, are there any other thoughts on what could be happening?

Sorry – the last post was from me. Was signed in under my other account and forgot to do the switcharoo before posting last. – Cat

It’s possible they encountered a rare glitch so I recommend contacting staff directly so they can look into the matter further http://support.wordpress.com/contact/
