My images appear small in posts and when I resize them it's still the same

Hi, I know a lot of people have trouble with this one too but I’ve been reading the threads for a long time and I’m still stumped. I’ve already tried a few suggestions like re-sizing my images, emptying and refreshing my browser and changing my theme but the results are still the same: every time I upload an image to my media library it appears small. I want it to be large and occupy the whole space but it appears like a medium sized box. I’ve tried uploading my photos elsewhere and it’s big. This is very frustrating because I don’t want my images small. It gets overwhelmed by the text in my posts. Please help. I’m already at wits end.

By the way, the previous images in my blog are big because they were imported from another site.

You need to pre-size and optimize your images prior to uploading them. That way you will not be wasting your free media storage space, your will get the best images quality and you will not be troubleshooting images. Thank you for your quick reply. I have already tried to pre size my image before uploading them. The image I actually need help with is this:
I tried resizing it to 600 x 492 and it’s only 80 plus kilobytes. The results are still the same.

Hi I think I figured out what the problem was. I tried increasing the size for the medium setting and it worked! Now my picture is just as I want it to be. Thanks a lot for your help!!! :)
