My images don’t show in the post

I’ve uploaded several images to my media library and they show there. When I insert one into a draft post nothing appears, even though the code for it is apparent in the HTML view. My friend who is a longtime WordPress user is here with me and says I’m doing everything right. We’re baffled. Help!!

Or, besides what timethief suggested, can you publish your post public temporarily so we can look at your code?
Or post the code between backticks here?
Backtick looks like a backwards apostrophe ‘ (backtick`)
On U.S. keyboards, next to the 1/! key and the lowercase of the tilde ~
