My import page stuck at "We're processing your import now and will send you"

Hi All,

I am import my old xanga post to here…
When I imported the 15th xml file some weeks ago, the wordpress import tool got stuck at the page

“We’re processing your import now and will send you an email when it’s all done. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.”

Many 24-hours have been passed… can someone help to fix the page so that I can continue to import my old xanga post?

I just reset your site’s importer again, so if you need to import more files you can go ahead with that.

I also checked the file you imported and all of the posts from that file were imported. (The importer got stuck after it finished importing the posts.) Please let me know if I can do anything more to help!

Hi there,

I checked the file you tried to import most recently, and there was a problem with the character encoding in the file. I fixed that issue in the file and restarted that import, but if you have more files to import please make sure they are saved with UTF-8 encoding.

If you have any more trouble with this, please let me know!

Oops, sorry about that! I just reset the importer and made sure it isn’t stuck right now.

Hi,

Thanks for resetting it.

Just want to briefly describe the situation: the xml files I imported are mostly utf-8. When I import the first 10 xml files the importer was still working fine. I encountered the importer issues starting from the 14th xml file…

$ file -I *
4079928_5.xml: text/html; charset=utf-8
4079928_6.xml: text/html; charset=utf-8
4079928_7.xml: text/html; charset=utf-8
4079928_8.xml: text/html; charset=utf-8
4079928_9.xml: text/html; charset=utf-8

In total I have 41 xml files to be imported. Now I have imported up to the 17th, remaining 29. I am trying to combine the remaining files to 4-5 xml files. In the worst case if the importer keeps hanging… you may need to help me to reset the importer 4-5 times :(

I can certainly reset that importer for you if you need — that’s not a problem at all. I’m just sorry it’s causing trouble for you.

The only issue I came across looking at the import file was the encoding, so I’m not sure what else would cause the importer to get stuck. Sometimes it can just be a bit troublesome, and in that case please let me know if it gets stuck again and I can reset it for you.

Sure thing! I just reset the importer for you.

I also checked with our team about this, and if you continue to have trouble with the Xanga importer you can also try choosing “WordPress” instead of “Xanga” on the Import screen to see if that importer works better for you.

Hi there!

I’ve just cleared this import for you. Can you tell me the size of the file you’re trying to import? Sometimes if you’re too close to the 15mb limit we see issues with the importer.
