My ip address has been 'flagged for potential security violations'

    Hi all,

I just tried to access wp-admin for my site but a screen appeared telling me my ip address has been ‘flagged for potential security violations’.

When I click “Find out more’ it tells me could have been for “too many failed log-in attempts” but i haven’t accessed the site over the past week or so. Does this mean there was a hacking attempt?

Attempts to whitelist my ip address on wordpress.com have failed – it simply won’t let me enter the information. A large message pops up telling me “There was an error retrieving your site settings. Make sure your jetpack is up to date”.

However, I can’t update jetpack because I can’t get into the site.

Attempts to click on the red warning box are met with:

    “Not Acceptable!

An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.”

    What’s going on?

This forum provides support to sites hosted here at WordPress.com. Your site uses the version of WordPress that is supported over at WordPress.org : https://wordpress.org/support/

    This explains the difference:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

You might need to check with your hosting company.

And you might check out the Jetpack support:

    Hi There,

I am having a similar problem when I try to access my wp-admin for my site. It also states “flagged for potential security violations” and I am unable to log into my dashboard.

When I click ‘find out more’, it says I can go into my wordpress account – settings – security – whitelist in order to whitelist the IP address. I cannot find “whitelist” anywhere.

Does anyone know where I can locate this! Or have a better solution?

    Thanks so much!
    Rachelle
