My Kungfu teacher died and I want to keep the site up
-
Hello. My friend owned and ran sicknesskungfu.com. He was my Kungfu teacher and the site was dedicated to the Chinese Martial arts we practice. Sadly, he passed away unexpectedly in mid October. I’m concerned the information contained therein could be lost, as I spoke to someone at the wake from his family who had investigated and found it’s due for renewal in Dec.
So my primary concern is that if the deadline lapses the sites information could be lost. I’m considering paying the requisite fees if that will keep the site live. His cousin who I’d spoken to had mentioned keeping the site up, but we haven’t been in touch so I’m not sure if she will follow through with that.
Hope this hasn’t been too confusing. The sites owner was a close friend and I don’t want his work to vanish.PS: I’m extremely agitated at the lack of clarity for how I could communicate with someone who works for WordPress. I can’t imagine questions specific to billing would be put up to a public forum. SOOOOOO if anyone could tell me how to communicate more directly with the people running WordPress I’d appreciate it

Hello there, Sorry for your loss. Please follow this support guide on what to do when the site owner passes away https://wordpress.com/support/deceased-user/

Hi there,
We’re only able to turn over control of a site and its upgrades to the deceased’s next-of-kin, or someone authorised to act on their behalf of their estate. They can follow the process at the link @justjennifer provided above to gain access to the account.
Once they have access, they can then transfer ownership of the site and its upgrades to you, if they wanted to. But the decision would be theirs.
That said, the site will not go offline once the upgrades expire. It will simply revert to the free plan, and the free sicknesskungfu.wordpress.com address, but all the content will remain available online until someone with access to the account decides to remove it.
I also see you’re an admin on the site, so you could always add your own domain and plan to the site once the current plan and domain expires and is removed.
Let me know if you have any questions.
