My likes aren't sticking while trying to move through posts in my Reader

  • Unknown's avatar

This is so frustrating! I’ve cleared out cache, turned my machine on and off, and still my likes are not sticking.

I don’t have time to open fully every post in my reader, so I need to be able to like and comment directly on the shortened post in the Reader. But it is not sticking. I’m wasting far too much time and now totally backed up this morning.

Any ideas why this is happening? http://www.oilpastelsbymary.com is my blog.

This happens more times than I can count with my blog reader. Perhaps I’m following too many blogs?

Specific is that likes aren’t sticking when I hit the like button when scrolling through my Reader. Sometimes I’ll use this feature if I’m pressed for time and can’t wait for a blog to open to read the whole post.

I’ve cleaned out my cache, turned off my computer, turned it back on and still cannot get the likes to stick when I hit like while scrolling through my Reader.

Usually works, but on occasion like today, my likes are unliked – makes for wasted time on my computer when I could be in my studio painting.

Could someone assist me on my blog: http://www.oilpastelsbymary.com
and see if there is an issue with my Reader.

    Thanks Timethief!

    a) Dell laptop Inspiron, wireless – Verizon FIOS
    b) Mozilla Firefox, current version
    c) no error messages. While scrolling through the blogs in my Reader, when I hit the like button, WP instantly unlikes. My likes aren’t sticking.

Just went in again and its finally started working again ~

    Wonder why this happens.

I think it could be spotty internet connection issue. When connections fail what you describe happens. However, I am happy to know that all is well at this time.

Sorry, but it’s not working again ~

I can’t spend any more time on my Reader liking posts and not having it worked. Will notify followers expect not to see me as usual, two hours wasted today that I can’t get back.

I’m happy to look into this for you. Problems like this that only happen sometimes are the hardest to track down, but hopefully we’ll be able to figure it out together.

While scrolling through the blogs in my Reader, when I hit the like button, WP instantly unlikes.

When the likes aren’t working, does the the like appear and then disappear, or does it not work at all?

When the likes aren’t working, do they stop working for every post you try to like, or just certain sites?

If you re-click the like button does it instantly unlike again, or are you able to get it to stick with repeated clicks.

Is there anything else you can think of that is different between the times when likes work and when they don’t? Different times of day, different sites, different locations?

Hi Liz, thank you for answering and working on the issue.
When the like isn’t working – the like appear and then disappear, and once this happens it happens on all subsequent likes on posts I try to like.
The only thing that I notice is one I go through a day and a-half of blog posts in my Reader is typically when the likes stop working.

Thanks very much and hope you’ll be able to resolve. Mary

Does this happen after you’ve liked a lot of posts in rapid succession? If so, it sounds like you are hitting the like limit.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi Liz, I don’t know that there is a like limit. Is that so – how many is this.

Because the problem happened again today, only after I went through two photographers’ blogs and didn’t even start on my Reader. Now I just went into my reader to start going through the blog posts and on the very first one I tried to like while in the reader instead of viewing the entire post and the like wouldn’t stick.

So what I’m understanding is that you only have so many “likes” allotted each day? How many is that? And, how can we increase the limit, I pay for my blog site theme and this is really upsetting to find out.

Please let me know and how we can increase the number – otherwise I will have to unfollow at least half of all the blogs I follow, which in turn will have the effect of people unfollowing me if I don’t follow and comment on their blogs. And, that defeats the whole purpose of a blog.

We have measures in place to prevent abuse. It isn’t possible to avoid these measures. The purpose of the button is to show other bloggers that you read and enjoyed their posts. These measures leave plenty of room to use the button as it was intended.

I guess I’m wondering how many likes can I do in a day?

Following 400+ blogs can mean that there are a lot of posts in my Reader. Sometimes I don’t have time to open every post so I do like the ability to hit the “Like” button in my Reader. But after so many it stops working.

How many likes are we allotted each day?
