My links widget disappeared from sidebar

  • Unknown's avatar

Had a list of websites, ( links ) that was displayed in my sidebar up until two days ago and separated into three or four categories. I was trying to increase the link count display the other night and couldn’t figure out how to do, but I had done this in the past.

Whatever I tried, somehow made the list disappear completely and I see no tutorial on WordPress or YouTube on how to get it back. The only thing on links is how to create them. I still have all the links, just can’t get them to show in sidebar. Frustrating. Chateau is the theme I use use it makes a difference.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

I still have all the links, just can’t get them to show in sidebar. Frustrating. Chateau is the theme I use use it makes a difference.

Is this the theme you are referring to: https://wordpress.com/theme/chateau

From what I can see, the theme is retired. A retired theme will no longer receive updates with new features. While a retired theme should continue functioning on your site, there’s no guarantee it will always work well. You can read more on this here: https://wordpress.com/support/themes/retired-themes/

In this case, I’d suggest you first try to temporarily switch to a different theme to see if the issue persists. If it does, then please send a screenshot of the widget, so I can try to replicate and advise further.

Hi there, the legacy Links Widget was deprecated some time ago. https://wordpress.com/forums/topic-tag/links-widget/

As an alternative, it’s been suggested to use the List Block. However, it’s not possible to connect to the Links section in the WP Admin Dashboard.

Finally, there is a new-ish Blogroll block available, but it behaves very differently and is not necessarily what I want to do with a Blogroll. The support guide says “At the moment, this block will only display WordPress.com sites to which you’re subscribed. We plan to add support for custom URLs as this feature develops.”
