MY MENU HAS DISAPPEARED!

  • Unknown's avatar

I have set a ‘main menu’ to appear in the primary menu area. The top? I cannot see it even when I edit the menu. I also keep on checking to see title and tagline and nothing. Please help!

I am updating this. The menu and title/tagline appears to be on my other page. But not my homepage. Is there any way to move this?!

And all my posts too! So the only thing is it’s missing on the homepage.

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

I have set a ‘main menu’ to appear in the primary menu area. The top? I cannot see it even when I edit the menu.

When I visit https://wearemixedrace.wordpress.com/, I can see that the main menu in place in the top right hand side. It consists of Home and Episodes.

I am updating this. The menu and title/tagline appears to be on my other page. But not my homepage. Is there any way to move this?!

Just to check, are you changing this via Customize > Site Identity?

    Many thanks in advance.

Hello thank you so much for getting back to me. I managed to fix the problem I think!

I did have another question with regards to the featured images being so HUGE on the blog posts and when I go into edit there is no option to shrink them. Do I need to start a new topic question for this?

    Thank you!

  • Hello there,

Glad I could help and no need for a new topic on this occasion.

The image is a featured image and it’s size is really a theme design trait. You could opt to not use a featured image, and instead add it into the post content, which might give you more control over the size.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you!!
The thing is the featured image shows up beautifully on my homepage as you can see under each post blog (under “Listen To Our Episodes Below” – But then in the posts they aren’t really needed.

So it’s the opposite way around! Ha.

    Anything I can do?

Also just while I have you here!

I created a new post and it automatically goes to both pages – “episodes” and “blog” – Is there any way I can direct the posts to the page I want it to show up on?

Thank you so much for your help and please forgive me I’m a newbie!

  • In the customizer go to Content Options. Some themes will allow you to control where you display the Featured Images. If your theme doesn’t allow that, you would only be able to do that with some custom CSS – that’s available on plans Premium and above.

Yes, you will want to create Category Pages for that. Have a look here:

    Thank you!

Is there any way to only have certain one’s appear on the homepage? And not all new posts?

  • Great question! If you edit your home page and click on the block which is displaying the posts, you should see a setting on the right that says, “Choose specific posts”. Example image: https://d.pr/i/7ClKyr

Here’s our support guide for this very feature if you need a little more help: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/blog-posts-block/#block-settings

Try that and let us know how it goes. :)

Thank you! You guys are the best!

    May be last question :)

On my blog category page (on the menu) it is showing my first blog but then underneath its saying ‘previous post’ which would be fine if it was in the same category but it isn’t. Is there a way to prevent this and only show previous posts in that category?

    Oh sorry missed something.
If I launch the site is there a way of putting it in maintenance mode if needed?

  • On the Previous Post bit, not really, no. That will always link to the next post chronologically on the site.

You can toggle the site between private and public by following the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/settings/privacy-settings/

    OK understood. Thanks.

And can you please tell me how I would remove the author on all my posts?

    Thanks so much.

  • Hi @babybko, currently you’d need CSS to remove the author byline on this theme, and CSS requires our Premium plan or higher.

If you’ll be upgrading the site to Premium later, we can give you the CSS code when you’re ready.

If you won’t be upgrading and definitely need the author hidden, I’d recommend using another theme that gives an option to hide that for now.

Or, if you wanted to, you may also be able to set up a username that’s more generic, then transfer all of the posts to that author.

    Let us know your thoughts.

  • I wanted to add, too, the option to hide bylines on this theme may be coming soon, I just don’t want to make a promise on that until that feature is here. :)
