My MX records given to me by my mail domain host are not being accepted

    My domain is registered with ONEANDONE.CO.UK

    I have reset the nameservers to WordPress as instructed.

    I have tried inserting the MX records as given to me by ONEANDONE but they will not be accepted by wordpress

    This is what they told me to put in:

    MX00.1and1.co.uk
    MX01.1and1.co.uk

    What should the MX records be?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    What are you trying to do with the MX records? if you are trying to get mail to work – the records given you are not complete and should be something along the lines of:

    MX01 mail.1and1.co.uk.

    But 1 & 1 are the ones that need to give you the correct information

    I am trying to amend the MX records when domain mapping.
    1&1 have given me these records:

    MX00.1and1.co.uk
    MX01.1and1.co.uk

    But they are not being accepted by wordpress as valid?!?!

    1&1 have not given me any other record? Is there:

    1. any other format of the MX record; or
    2. anyway to override wordpress’s non acceptance of the MX record form that 1&1 have given me?

    No you can’t “override” the format here – when I moved my domain I had to change the records a bit to match the format from what worked on my old host –

    ok so I entered the following, which has been accepted, but my mail is still not working:

    MX 0 mail00.1and1.co.uk.
    MX 0 mail01.1and1.co.uk.

    Do I also have to enter A, CNAME, TXT and SRV records as well?

    Or do you think the issue is at one&one – do I need to change the MX records there to send it back to wordpress?

    Hi l190, for the MX records to work, you will need to change the nameservers for your domain with your registrar to the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    You should also make your domain the primary domain, here:
    https://louisamitchell.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

    When you say that your “mail is still not working”, where is it not working? Your MX records are already properly configured with your current Nameservers; what are you using to access your email?

    For the 1and1 email follow those instructions (thanks to Bryan Villarin) :

    Manage Your DNS Records

    and then for 1and1 just enter :

    MX 10 mx00.1and1.com.
    MX 20 mx01.1and1.com.

    Save and it’s done !

    Hello again,

    According to http://who.is/whois/louisamitchell.org, your Nameservers are still not set to the WordPress.com Nameservers. For things to work properly, you need to change them to

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    like I mentioned previously. Let me know if you need further help with this.

    And thank you for the tip, thomasbarley. I didn’t know abot 1and1’s MX servers, good to know!
