  I finally decided to activate a blog here on WordPress. It turns out anildas.wordpress.com already exists. I must have posted somewhere sometime ago and not bothered to complete/setup a blog at the time (since i’m doing the self-hosted thing anyway) and now my name is tied up. Is there anyway to validate or identify how I logged in in order to tie up the name in the first place?

  Hi Anil. If you remember the username or email address (and you still have access to the email address) you would have used to create the account, you can attempt to reset the password by visiting:

  http://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

  Once you are logged in as that user, you can transfer its ownership to your new username if you’d like.

  If you do not know (or do not have access to) the original username and password, you can attempt to prove ownership by going to the following form:

  http://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery
