No, it’s a new site I just spent hours building. It was supposed to be free and when I fin ished it I’m told I have to pay for it. The new website is – Thank you for getting back to me.

These days at WordPress.com “free” sites are only free if you accept the standard templates as presented to you with each theme. If you want to “build” a customised look and start changing things then a paid plan is required to activate the site along with those changes you have made.

OK, I’ll stick to the standards.

So rather then paying each month can I pay one payment for the year?

It’s almost twice as expensive to pay 12 monthly instalments compared to once annually. If different colours etc are important then click upgrade on the left and choose annual instead of monthly from the dropdown menu. Personally I have happily got by with a free site for years. The only benefit I can see for paying is to remove adverts.

I’m not able to add widgets or things on my sidebar, every time I try I’m blocked and told to upgrade in order to do that. I’m not talking about 12 monthy payments. I’m saying instead of being billed for $2.00 every month, why can’t I just make one payment of $24.00 for the year. July 2025 to July 2026.

Oh, sorry, you’re talking about JUST adding custom CSS rather than upgrading to a Premium plan (which would also give you a custom domain address and no ads) where monthly and yearly payments vary widely.

Note that to add CSS it says £2 month billed yearly so if you click through you will be charged £24 in one go.
